Premium Members James Davis Posted March 20, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 20, 2012 The top photo is the Dionic HC cell Bank (note the individual cell holder and relocated control board) The bottom photo is a standard Dionic 90 cell bank (note the control board attached directly onto the cell bank) Look at the photo's and draw your own conclusion..... Regards John Ritter So the HC essentially just has the same cells but with a better casing with a heatsink so it doesn't get so crazy hot at the higher current load? Site Sponsor John Ritter Posted March 23, 2012 Site Sponsor Report Share Posted March 23, 2012 How does one open an AB battery? The only way I can think of is to cut it open with a Dremel tool. Very Carefully............ Each style case has a different method for opening, based on the original manufacturing process, The older brick styles have to be saw cut open and resealed, the newer case's are engineered snap interlock closure case halves and are disassembled as two half sections. The procedure for each requires practice to do without casing any damage, you need to know were the adhesive was used and be able to break or un-bond the joined sections. Anton Bauer has a very good consistent manufacturing process so that you can use the same procedure on each case. Other manufacturers vary their production runs so the assembly, adhesive application is inconsistent, making opening the case an unpleasant surprise at times. Premium Members pauldudeck Posted April 2, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 2, 2012 Hi Guys, I have been following this post. Just to clear things up, the DIONIC HC and DIONIC 90 use two different cells. They are both from the same manufacturer, however, there are some characteristics which are different such as they can handle high current and have a longer life span. With the HC, Anton/Bauer also developed the "honeycomb" cell protector which was also approved by the cell manufacturer and which the cell manufacturer may also incorporate into some of their own projects. I hope this helps. Regards, Paul Dudeck
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted April 2, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 2, 2012 Aside from product performance, reliability, quality and safety, having a manufacturers rep like Paul who is right here with us on the board as an active member is worth the extra money to me. There are all kinds of products and service we use, we can save money on or buy cheaper, that is a personal decision. My decision for batteries is to go with a company who is actively engaged and involved in our profession, a company I can call and speak to a human for tech support and a rep who I see at industry events. That company is Anton Bauer. Robert
Site Sponsor John Ritter Posted April 2, 2012 Site Sponsor Report Share Posted April 2, 2012 Hi Paul Any chance of seeing the spec sheet for the 2 cells? I understand if it is proprietary information. John Ritter
Premium Members Sydney Seeber Posted April 2, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 2, 2012 so I did me some maths & research on the batteries in question, they are indeed relabeled Chinese imports. The only issue I see is that they've all got the same current draw, all the way up to their 230 watt-hour version. It comes out to around 6 or just under 7 amp draw at best... So it doesn't seem as if they're a real alternative to the AB HC batteries if you're needing one of those. I base this on their wattage limitation which they claim is 80 watt draw max for all of their batteries.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
