Richard James Lewis
Ello. I changed from my mk-v to a PRO HD / XCS 2" hybrid. I was immediately struck by the unusable distance from the docking ring to the camera. I then remembered that someone suggested clamping the 2" gorelock ring tightly around the j box ring. This has immediately recovered me quite a bit of post room, and I would like to keep it like this after initially immediately regretting going down the conversion route. Has anyone had any problems with this at all? Everything seems very tight. If it's a matter of just checking that nothing is coming loose every so often then I can live with that. Anyone? Rick. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted December 1, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 1, 2011 I have been doing this for a year with no problems -- getting that 1/2" back is a huge deal if you want to keep the sled short. At first I didn't like being accused of having a short post...now I am proud of it! Alec J gave me the original idea. rb
Richard James Lewis
I just don't know how people could work without this trick. My monitor at the moment is quite light until I get the cinetronic, so as long as there aren't any issues I shall keep the ring locked on there. I was worried about putting pressure on the wrong parts, but if it was designed to dock on regularly then I shouldn't have any real reservations I guess. There are now two of us in the world doing this. Go team! RJL I have been doing this for a year with no problems -- getting that 1/2" back is a huge deal if you want to keep the sled short. Premium Members Afton Grant Posted December 2, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 2, 2011 There are now two of us in the world doing this. Make that three. And I've had no problems in the past couple months since the new sled. ...I have gained a few pounds however. Could be related.

Alec J gave me the original idea. rb I too have been using this for over a year with zero problems. I stole the idea from Ron's brain (very scary place) right as he was getting ready to do it. Initially I thought the clamp might put undue strain on the j-box clamp/ring, but the j-box ring was actually made to be the OEM PRO docking ring, so it's designed to take the movement and weight of docking the sled. Periodically I unclamp the Gorelock ring and check to make sure that the j-box ring is properly tight (good idea to do this on for the lower ring also). Premium Members James Davis Posted December 13, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2011 For those that have done it and used the 1.5 inch pro post previously, is there that much of a noticable difference in stiffness? Does it come loose at all? Also if you were a Pro post user previously having now used it would you stick with the XCS carbon post or go back to the pro post? I have no experience of the XCS products personally, but I have twiddled with pro rigs a few times and also an XCS ergo handle, both which feel really nice, so I am mostly curious as I am starting to put money aside with a view to building a similar XCS/pro hybrid Rig, as I really like the simplicity of the Pro electronics and their robustness. Premium Members Twojay Dhillon Posted February 22, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 22, 2012 I run this same setup and I, like Matt P, periodically remove the docking ring to check the upper and lower J-Box ring. Another great idea which I culled from the depths of this forum! B)
