Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted December 4, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 4, 2011 Hey everyone, I've been working on a wireless monitoring solution using a new WHDI stick from Philips. It uses a HDMI dongle powered via usb. I've cobbled together a unit that puts out both HDMI and HD-SDI simultaneously. It's a bit convoluted at the moment, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get some interest to condense the whole thing. I'll have more info on it as I develop and test it, but I'll put a couple of pictures up for the moment. Premium Members Peter Sheppard Posted December 5, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 Hey Alan Sounds interesting. Have you seen a picture through it yet and what distances and latency are you getting? Really small. I like. Pete.
Premium Members William Demeritt Posted December 5, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 That looks exciting, glad to see the WHDI sticks hitting the market.
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted December 5, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 5, 2011 There is zero latency, and it's fully uncompressed. I haven't done too much testing of the range yet. Although, I have tested it through a couple of walls with no signal loss. I'll post more photos and videos soon. Premium Members Tommy Stork Posted December 13, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2011 Hi Alan, Which cameras have you tested this with so far?
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted December 17, 2011 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 17, 2011 I won't be working on this for awhile because this particular unit started going crazy. I've sent it in for an exchange at Amazon, but they're back-ordered until the end of next month. I don't know if I've played any part in the unit dying, or if it's a fluke. I guess I'll find out when the replacement comes in. HDMI 1.3 or 1.4? 1.3 Hey Alan, tried any range tests yet?...BTW, whats the P-tap to usb power adapter you're using? Here are some more pictures This is something I made from a Griffin USB car adapter and a car power extension cable. I just cut the end off of the extension cable, and I soldered a P-tap onto it. Hi Alan, Which cameras have you tested this with so far? So far I've only had a chance to test it with the F3, and it worked very well. Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted December 28, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 28, 2011 I'd be interested in putting the reviver on one of those inexpensive liliput monitors. It would be a great director's monitor if the range is any good (Give it to the director, tell him to go away) I know everyone is asking about range, but what's the longest you gone with it? I only need about 30ft LOS. Edit: The price is right on Amazon.

I'll be bringing it without saying that I'm bringing it, so if it doesn't work it's no big deal. I've found though that my pelican case enclosure kills the signal, so I'm modifying it so that it can hang open on a c-stand. We'll see. The advertised range is 23 feet obstructed, by the way. Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted March 12, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 12, 2012 Okay, so I haven't updated this in a while, but I have been working on a second prototype. I've scratched the receiver box to video village, and I've decided to go with a handheld director's monitor. I'm shooting a short film next weekend, and I'm going to test drive it there. I've already started to build the prototype, and I'll have it up and running a a couple of days. I've taken a couple of pictures of the build so far: WHIDI Director's Monitor
Jarrett Morgan
looks really interesting. I tried to do a similar thing with the director's monitor with the Brite View system that has been discussed here, but ran into issues as the camera was outputting a PSF signal, which neither the transmitter nor monitor liked.... Any thoughts on that? I have done a bit of research and it seems that HDMI in general does not like PSF.
