Premium Members Afton Grant Posted January 3, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 3, 2012 Oldskool does rule, just don't try to get newskool prices when you sell it Maybe "try" should be replaced with "expect". Personally, I don't feel a precedent should be set where we voice our opinions (unless supportive) on people's sale prices here in the marketplace. I've seen a lot of items posted in the past with the seller asking what, in my opinion, is a bit too much. But it's just my opinion. If this is indeed a free market, as it should be, the market will determine what a good price is.... which is really nothing more than what someone is willing to pay. So although I shouldn't expect to get $10,000 for a homemade donkey box, there should be nothing stopping me from trying.

Premium Members Andrea Miraglia Posted January 4, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2012 May I suggest changing the ad to something along the lines of NOT A 3A GIMBAL!!!!! By the time the first photo was posted it was pretty clear to me (and I guess it should have been to everybody else) that we are not dealing with a 3A Gimbal. There is nothing old school about this gimbal. We are not talking about a gimbal that has been abused in the field for the past 25 years and is now on the market for the price of a new one, it is an almost brand new gimbal, manufactured from scratch in 2010. I have had the pleasure to spend some time over the past year with Stefano and it is very clear to me that his dedication to the craft of steadicam goes beyond strapping the rig on and pointing the camera. ( I am not saying that that is what being a steadicam operator is but I am sure that you all know the same people I encounter day in and day out that limit themselves to just that). Besides his true love of steadicam aesthetics and countless hours of exercise he likes to understand how things work, he has spent a great deal of time helping to develop parts for his rig and this gimbal is part of that growing effort. I have not tried the gimbal so I can't speak about its performance. I would love to try it. ( Stefano, if anybody on this side of the world is interested in trying I would be happy to take it around for you ) As we all know it is very hard to post positive comments on something like a gimbal without trying it first, but it should be just as hard to leave negative ones. Nobody questions the price of a Pro gimbal because we all know how it performs. When a new piece of equipment comes out we don't question the price. We give cinetronic a shot, we give xcs a spin, we try out walter klassen and than we decide if we are willing to go for it. In this specific case all of the things Stefano has listed are "products" that are not known by many. Give it a try, take it for a spin and then decide. I am sure that the biggest disservice was to advertise it as a 3A gimbal, I am sure that if it had sad something like "custom built" or "brand new" gimbal we all would have reacted differently. That said, lingering in the mistake of comparing this gimbal to that of a 3A is just a waste of time. Like Afton I believe in having the market decide what a product is worth. Nobody is trying any scams here. Jumping in and making fun of someone else's ad is somewhat unsettling. It is also true that if Osvaldo and Eric hadn't questioned the price in the first place we would have never seen the photos and we would have dismissed it as an overpriced old piece of equipment. On a side note, I think this has all the potential to become the longest "for sale" post. Keep up the comments!!!
Premium Members Stefano Ben Posted January 4, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted January 4, 2012 Andrea, I'm Glad to have a kind friend like you. Thanks so much for all your support. Guys, I received so many questions about these parts. So... Like Andrea has said, these is almost new stuff built in late 2010 and has been serviced by an existing manufacturer. All components that you saw it's part of the 1st prototype made for the new Rig. And for this reason, the entire cost of all it's around 50% cheaper than the new Sled that will be officially ready and on the market from february 2012. Anyway... the quality and cost of these 1st components will be the proof for the excellent performance of the next and official generation of this Sled. Best, Steve.
