Premium Members Adi Visser SOC SASO Posted January 12, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 12, 2012 Hi I am busy buying my first HD screen and I am a bi confused as to how I will be able to generate frame lines and level as I used to with my Sd monitor.Usually I had signal and power coming out of my PRO into my Marrell Frame generator/level and then out of there through 8 pin Lemo to my screen .So I got power video and frame lines and level through one cable .Now with HD how will I do this to get HD picture and use my frame line generator? Is this possible. regards Adi Cape Town
Premium Members chris bangma Posted January 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 13, 2012 You would need an HD frameline and level generator. The SD one will not work. You could downconvert the HD signal if you still want to use it. Kind of deafeats the purpose of an HD monitor though.

Hi Chris Yes I thought as much just was not sure how others are bridging this problem seeing that most productions are going HD now.I could just use a normal level attached to my screen but I do like the sensitivity of the electronic level, frame lines are not such a huge concern as most cameras generate their own frame lines ,apart from 5D's and other smaller cameras.Anyway thanks.Who makes HD frame generators/levels ? Premium Members Jens Piotrowski SOC Posted January 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 13, 2012 since there is currently no HD frameline/bubble level unit, you an double feed the monitor and switch between HD, let's say for the rehearsal and then got to SD with bubble and frameline for the actual take.... BTW, the Alexa PLUS has a build in digital level and framelines that you get on the monitor out....

Premium Members Tomas Riuka Posted January 14, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 14, 2012 Why not just buy transvideo with digital bubble and framelines so you can set anything you want?

Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted January 14, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 14, 2012 It's funny how many people (including myself) love and rely on the xcs level so much that we nearly always downconvert the signal just to have his superior graphics. Wish someone would take a page outta his book and make one like his (if he isn't already, of course). Haven't seen the one in the alexa, love to check it out. As far as having one in the monitor...not the best location for the sensor (and yes...$$$)

I don't use xcs I have been very happy with my marrel dual frame line and electronic level but they are not upgrading to Hd so maybe I wil wait for the Xcs before I change to Hd I still transmit in Sd as this is the most stable system I have ever seen. Premium Members chris bangma Posted January 14, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 14, 2012 The new Cinetronic monitor will have framelines and bubble level. Many of the guys here have already seen the software for the new monitor with the new features. As to a standalone level, these can be very difficult, since you you need to buffer the video signal to add the level and framelines. Doing this adds a 1-2 frame delay. The Red cameras and Alexa already have a 2-3 frame delay coming out of the camera, and most lcds have a minimum of 1 frame delay as well. This is why we chose to add the framelines and bubble level in the final processing of the monitor, so no additional delay is added.
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted January 14, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted January 14, 2012 I'd add (I hope I'm not mistaken on this) that Chris still intends to keep the level sensor in an external box so you can place that by the center post.
