Me I want the problem fixed. One way or another. Now that IS clear, accepted and confirmed by Jerry that our stock of G50s were wrong I want a solution. I'm also fine in paying a little for having it fixed but main thing is to get off that awful bumping. You don't know how many times I've asked myself WHY??? WHY??????? WHY???????????? And people (DPs and Directors) noticed it, only in slow walk ok but for me it's like 80% of the work requested. It's always slower slower please.

Never thought it was my fault since with my first arm (a crappy 2 springs parallel arm) never ever had an issue like that.

hope for a good, fast and brilliant solution.

Hi Chris

Glad you confirm the goodnes of the mods.

If you're talking about the stock arm I got from you it' not possible that you never feel the bounce because it's the one I'm using and I've noticed it from the very first time. Then it takes months to understand it wasn't me, then other couple to accept it. Then starving for a solution, lowering the socket block, etc etc.. This is crucial only in slow walk dolly style. We all know what I'm talking about. And I'm sure Tiffen will provide a solution now that it's clear and accepted. Free or charge.

Chris,

I've no doubt you never felt the bouncing, but as you know I do feel it a lot. It's like an unexpected bounce coming from the arm but in no way linked to a specific step or move. It's like you walk 3 steps ok then the 4th bounce, why? don't know... Anyway Robert explain it perfectly, I was and I am in the same situation. It's kind of relief reading from seasoned and established ops that was not only me or my technique (even if I never doubt about it). I'm sure TIffen will take care of that. To be absolutely clear the arm works great if not used at super slow speed, other then that it's perfect and beautiful to fly.

Hey Chris!

Happy weekend from Fabulous Las Vegas!

My first question for you is whether you were flying pure off the production line Gx arms or initial models made for design / demo / trade show testing purposes? My understanding from other ops was that the initial G series arm(s) that debuted the new design back then where smoother than the final production line models.

Also, just so we're all open here in this discussion would you please divulge to us your full relationship to Tiffen as it pertains to teaching, workshops, trade show demos, travel expenses, compensation (monetarily or in-kind), product testing and consultation with the company as I did? No details and we know you're a great operator but it does appear you have a relationship with Tiffen and several other companies beyond just that of a customer / operator.

Please don't read this as accusatory by any measure but I think it's appropriate that we, myself included provide a transparent view of our relationship to Tiffen.

Thanks!

Robert

"I've tried both x arms. There is no doubt that you'll notice the difference immediately. Having said that, I've never had the 'bounce' problem with my stock G50."

Not to be rude but that's an admission there was a problem. If you feel the difference where it can be other then in the only part that was giving problem to a big amount of ops?

How can you notice the difference immediately? Where is the difference?

my best

Hi Robert,

I've had a a chance to fly the new arms in various stages of development, and the production G70X arm that I just flew at the Atlanta workshop is the one of finest arms I've ever flown.

To your main question, I have a fantastic relationship with Tiffen, and with the other suppliers of gear that I use, for two main reasons. First, I don't even begin a relationship with a company I don't trust, respect, and admire; and second, I try to put as much into that relationship as I possibly can. From the very beginning, Tiffen has supported me, and has listened to and addressed my problems. I have not been shy to pick the phone and call them directly at any time I felt like it, and any suggestion or comment, clever or stupid, I ever had about their gear has always been dealt with to my full satisfaction.

I have never charged Tiffen, nor been remunerated by them for consultation, testing, or demos. When I buy their gear (usually ex-demo stuff, which is available to anyone that asks), I get the same deals as everyone else, and as you know, teaching workshops is not something you do for the money, so you won't find the reason for my supporting them there. Robert, the explanation is that I applaud they way they innovate and push new products to the market. Not everyone goes gaga over the fact that you can crank the arms, tools free, from 0-70lbs in a matter of seconds; that you can tilt the stage without having to tilt the post; that you can balance the stage, on the fly, wirelessly; etc, but I do. I admire the innovation and drive this company has, and with any luck my relationship with them is just going to get better.

When I say I like something, it's simply because I like it. It's my opinion—as valid or as subjective as anyone else's.

See you in Vegas,

Chris

Maqu,

You are best placed to comment on the problem that I don't doubt you have with the arm. I am not.
