ok... let me put it down clear...

new G70X goes for the same price as old G70. An example: I'm a G70 owner and I want it to be fixed. I'll ship it to Tiffen and have it fixed for 2500. My friend Alessandro established op buy a new G70X, now we're on the market with the same arm (actually his better then mine since it's new) but I payed it 2500 more then my friend's new one. Does it sound crazy to anyone else or is it just me?

G70: $17400 (new) + $2500 (upgrade) = PRO ARM

And it's still not as good as a PRO arm

I think people wouldn't be so upset if Tiffen would have sold the arm for a lower price and advertised it as what it is, a good arm but not equal to a pro arm

that's what I meant, now you are exactly in PRO arm territory, price wise.....

Pro Arm incl. 4 spring canisters $18,250.00

Pro Arm incl. 8 spring canisters $21,500.00

Pro Arm incl. 6 spring canisters $19,500.00

easy choice, isn't it?

$2500 does not sound like "at cost" to me either.....good luck

Does Tiffen guys mind to jump in and give us some insight?

Matteo, other than announcements to products, I doubt your going to get a response on a public forum from any large company. Its just bad PR, but if you contact them directly, I'm sure you will get nearly all your questions answered unless it is information that can not be answered at the time.

Now.... Jim Bartell is the exception to the rule... he uses public forums as a leverage for drinks! (I owe you one for that Jim, collect at NAB)

I don't agree with that, ESPECIALLY when they say that they are going to make a policy announcement on the forum.

Having said that, I personally don't feel that Tiffen needs to upgrade anyones arm for free for the simple fact that you had a choice. You chose that arm, if you wanted one that didn't show your steps you could have bought the PRO arm, yes it was more expensive but now with the "Upgrade" the cost of the arm is what a PRO arm would have run. Where Tiffen can be faulted is that they mismarketed the arm and charged too much for it. If they just would have said that the PRO arm is the top of the market and our arms are good but not the best and charged say $12K for the G70 (Like they had originally talked) then they wouldn't have an issue they could always say you had a choice, and for you is the PRO arm $10K better? (My answer would be yes since I never want my gear limiting me) Instead they sold it as equal to or better than the PRO arm based on it's feature set not performance (Face it if you have been to a Tiffen sponsored steadi-school how many times did they say that you should use the ride knob to tune the arm to your shot) and then sold it slightly cheaper than the PRO so you felt that you were getting a bargain. In the end you saw your steps and the tiffen marketing machine will get another $2500-$3000 of your dollars to sell you a promise that they should never had made.

Just my two cents
