Anyone ordered a M-One Digital motor from loon works.com lately?

I'm afraid we've become a bit too detached as a society. Picking up the phone and talking to an actual human is getting more and more foreign. Great, old fashioned customer service like that provided by most of the manufacturers of our equipment seems to be, unfortunately, less and less expected and with it goes the skill of the customer to always "be right" as the saying goes. I feel lucky to still be in a business that thrives on the one-on-one, customer/vendor relationship. Let's not be afraid to take advantage of that!

Loon actually stopped making motors for months in 2011 due to various issues. However, they kept taking orders for new ones. As a result, there is a MASSIVE backorder on M-One motors. Also, Don's business phone kicks straight to a full voicemail box and he stopped responding to emails.

It took me 5 months to get my motor, and I'm convinced the only reason I got it when I did was because I was nagging him.

Why don't you just call or email them? They're a reputable company who have been supporting and servicing our industry for a very long time; it's not like they'll lie to you.

I did call Don multiple times. The first time I called him it went to a voice mailbox that was full. Then I wrote him at least five emails and he still hasn't responded to a single one. After that I called a few more times and finally got him on the phone and he promised it would be shipped definitely by Friday of last week. I then called him yesterday and he said it would be shipped today. What I don't understand is why doesn't he just post a good shipping estimate on his website saying something like 2-3 weeks.... even more why doesn't he respond to his emails? It gets scarier when I see threads on here saying that it took 6 months to receive a motor.

This is the first I've heard of problems with M-One service/support but maybe it's been in another thread.

Prior to switching to Preston nearly four years ago my experience with Don at M-one / Palomar / Loon was always exceptional.

With the rapid onset of 3D and the "new-found" interest in good glass I know even Preston is running a six week backorder on their motors. But they always answer their phones. Sometimes there's a good reason some products and brands cost more.

Good luck with your situation and hopefully Don will jump in here and clean this up in short order.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm happy to report that the wait time on my M-One Digital motor was only 3 weeks and 2 days after first ordering online from loonworks.com. That's much faster than what I expected. Don maybe a little swamped but the motors are definitely shipping. Also phone calls in the last two weeks were promptly answered. So don't be worried about the raucous that happened last year during Don's move back to Montana... that had me a little scared hearing about the months long wait.

Hi everyone

Thats great news that Don is getting on top of the New orders now . Great product .BUT If only he could start repairing the motors that have been sent back to him with issues then we all would be happy. I sent my motor back in november for repair Silence ever since. Repairs are just as important as sales may be more so .

Good luck .

I sent my M-one motor to Don for a repair last December and he repaired it and sent back within two weeks. I know it is very hard to reach him by email so I tried to call him several times and once I talked to him he repaired my unit and sent back right away. He also mentioned that he has computer problems so that may cause some electronic communication issues. If you sent a motor for a repair, try to call him.
