Members Rusty Geller
Rusty, How satisfied are you with the Marshall level indicator? How does it compare with what you've used in the past? It's not as good as the PRO or the XCS. It's a bit slow in reacting, and I have the sensitivity turned all the way up. It's a bit small on the screen, but it's red so that helps. I have an old style bubble level glued on the monitor arm also. I haven't used it much yet, time will tell. Members Rusty Geller
One quick thing. Present hd monitor technology induces at least a 2 frame delay when you have frame lines or an electronic on-screen level. just an FYI That's OK, when you're over 60 you have a built-in 2 frame delay on life, so I'll be right. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted April 21, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 Thanks for the input guys. In my mind, we are really talking about two different monitor types. One for full sized rigs and one for light weight rigs. The Cinetronic is unquestionably the best LCD screen out there in terms of brightness and picture. It is also built like a tank and is made to handle the harsh demands of any production environment. I love this monitor and it has replaced my TB-6 as my day to day monitor. The majority of the time, I use it with a down converter so that I can still use my XCS level. This monitor is simply too big for a Flyer or a rig of that kind. While they are working on a newer version with an HD level and framelines that will be smaller, I hope it is only slightly smaller (not as wide, to be exact). I like the depth and the weight as well as the ruggedness. To me, the Cinetronic and the TB-6 are the best choices for full-sized sleds. OK, smaller rigs. a 5" Cinetronic sounds interesting indeed, but I know Chris is working hard on the second generation 6.5" & 7". I suspect it will be some time before these additional models are ready. This may not be the case and I am not criticizing anyone; I'm simply in the market for a monitor. The Marshall does sound interesting, but the reason I'm asking about the Nebtek is because at the monitor shoot-out a couple of years back, the Nebtek 7" Solar HD (now discontinued) kicked the butt of all the other LCDs then available, including the current Marshalls of the time (don't recall the model number). What I took away from that event was that the TB-6 was still the best choice for Steadicam but the Nebtek would work well if you needed an LCD for some reason. So, has anyone seen the new Nebtek 56 Solar HD? Have you seen it alongside the Marshall? Does Nebtek still make a level? I know they did and then I heard they had stopped? Thank you. Premium Members John E Fry Posted May 22, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 22, 2012 Out of interest guys, I've just rewired my Flyer LE to run a Marshall V-LCD70XHB-3GSDI 7" HD-SDI monitor, which for the money has got to be the best value 7" monitor out there (yeah yeah, it's no Cinetronic, but you wouldn't put a Cinetronic on a Flyer, it costs almost as much as the rig!) Very happily I found that the original internal Flyer video loom WILL take HD-SDI with good signal strength through the rig. Removing the existing mini-DIN connector revealed SEVEN small wires going to the connector. They are: a Yellow coax video cable, 2 x Red (one coax), 2 x Whites (one coax), a Black, and a Brown wire. From there it was simply a question of putting a BNC on the end of the video wire, and XLR 4 pin on the correct power wires, with some strain relief of course. The Flyer LE now powers the monitor directly and happily runs composite, SDI, and HD-SDI through the rig from the original BNC input on the stage to the new BNC connector at the bottom. I expected to have to run an new cable down the post for HD-SDI, but no need! The Marshall displays 70% signal strength & everything looks very neat and tidy. I'll put some pictures up when I get a mo. Smooth Shooting all!
Premium Members joe mcnally Posted May 24, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 24, 2012 Hi John I bought one on of those too. I find it not very sharp and doesnt seem to have any detail enhancement so focusing a bit of a problem. I dont think they are any where near true HD ? Great brightness wise very happy as also use it on my Jimmyjib. Do you know how the backlight/contrast thing is supposed to do ? I can not seem to make it work It gets quite hot does yours ? Overall very happy with it and might buy a couple more soon Best for now Joe
