Will this only work with the BDR or also the analog BFD receiver? And if that's the case, I'm assuming they wired the pins so power could be looped through from the 2nd port on the analog BFD receiver? I don't have a BDR, but it looks as if there is not 2 power ports on it..

Hi Mike and everyone

I have just received an email from the guys at PLC and the answer is YES it will work with both analogue as well as the digital system .

I have a quick question to anyone who might have an insight on these types of things. I was reading through the Epic manual, and I saw that the GPO contact in the CTRL port on the Epic puts out 3.3v. So my question would be, would it be possible to make a start/stop cable that uses the power from the CTRL port (maybe a Y cable?

Alan,

I thought the same thing, and asked RED about it. If you read carefully, they say that the 3.3v is a tally output - it's active only when the camera is rolling. So, no way to start the camera using voltage coming out of it.

RED did just tease a new module which has a bunch of connectivity options, and also acts as an MDR for Preston handsets, but since it's RED, I'm not getting my hopes up on it being anywhere near cameras I'd use soon.

It also says in the manual that it can be used a a general purpose output that can be mapped to any of the user keys, so in theory, you could map it to the still/movie switch, turn it on, and leave it on. right?

Hi everyone

Just an update on the Epic remote run /stop cable .My cables arrived today .

The cable is well made The plastic box which houses a green LED (on light) and 2 pin power plug and a 4 pin on/off plug and a board with things on it.

When connecting it to the scarlet you first must set up the output . Go to Settings >Setup>GPIO/Sync>Camera out-SET THIS TO GENERAL PURPOSE OUT and on the "camera in"page set this to GENERAL PURPOSE IN. Also, go into Settings>Setup>GPIO/Sync>mode and turn it "off". If this doesn't work try "Proxy"

I will be making up a Y cable to P-tap so I can power it all off one output with my digital units .

If you own a Analogue receiver you can use the short BFD to BFD power cable to power the epic cable as well .

My cable guy love me I have put his children through college.

Preston have a solution for the MDR2 but does anyone know of a solution I could use with an MDR1?

I'm just wondering if I could buy that PLC one for my digi bartech and then get some adapter cables made to use with my MDR1.

Hi Thomas

A camera assistant friend of mine how owns his own MDR1 is doing just that . Next time I work with him I will ask him how he did it

ok .

Unless you are using Panavised Epics. They have their own little box that has BNCs for sync and timecode but the run/stop is a PanaLemo six pin hermaprodite connector. And it is not the same connector I have on any of my Panavision run cables for any of their other cameras. Found out after buying Epic run cables for my CVolution system and now can't use them on this job. Panavision is making up some Cmotion cables for me for this connector and some for the A camera Preston. They also cobbled together this God awful FrankenPana cage thing from old Panavision parts laying around the shop for it that brings the weight with Anamorphic lenses back up to way over a full Red One package and is very un user friendly. No good way to mount top rods and I can't remove the baseplate from the cage so I have to use an Arri dovetail with the full bottom rod carriage, etc. Suck...
