Water Madness

Dale Henderson

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, My name is Dale Henderson.

I am a steadicam owner operator in Australia and we are gearing up for the Commonwealth Games in 06.

We asked Rig Engineering to build a water steadicam, and i thought we might post the photos of the first test flight of the proto type.

I would like to show some pics if possible but can not seem to get them up on this forum.

Does anybody know, or can anybody help me get them up on the web forum?

Cheers,

Dale Henderson

Dale,

How are you, nice to see you posting. With that outfit you have on it looks like you may be starring in that film. Give us a little background info. By the way get in touch with Frank Rush. We are getting our new Vector, so we should try to work out that trade you wanted with the "easy rig". Hope you are well. Keep in touch.

Cheers Mate,

Jay

Interesting......

What arm are you using, seems to be a mix of some brands?

Or isit self-made, like the rig.

How does it behave? Dynamic balance is out of the question, I suppose?

and what kind of monitor are you using?

If I may it looks a lot like a Blackbird monitor, but by the size of it could even be the Tiffen HD Ultrabrite.

Hi Rob,

Hugo here from Rig Engineering. To answer the question about the arm, when Dale asked us to work on this project for him we had a look to see what older second hand arms we had in stock at the time and the arm we decided on was, I think, either ex Kevin Hewitt or Chip Monks. It is a model 2 with a non original bi directional elbow.

Being a prototype we experimented with many different water friendly bearings, some of the results we experienced resulted in an arm that was so riddled with friction that it became semi rigid. A complete disaster. But ultimately we found what we were looking for. In relation to its behaviour, dynamic balance and the monitor, Dale is the one with the hands on experience.

Forget the Steadicam equipment, where do you get those cool wetsuits? Those would come in handy for spring water skiing in Michigan.

But seriously, I don't see any rigging holding you on the jet ski. What did you use to stay on the watercraft?
