Premium Members Pedro Guimaraes SOC Posted March 25, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 25, 2012 They've said things like "simpler better laid out User Interface/Menu/buttons" and many have said they prefer the feel of the focusing wheel on all preston units over C-motion, which some have said feels stiffer, more like a normal rail mounted follow focus as opposed to the slick/free feel of the focusing wheel on a Preston. It's all personal opinion I guess but in my opinion Preston just do it better. Naturally it is all personal opinion. But just want to address 2 things you brought up. Just to keep people informed. *knob feel* The Knob on the cvolution has adjustable tension. The AC can quickly and easily adjust tension on the wheel from compeltely free feeling to one that takes more effort. Adjust to your personal preference. In fact all of the AC's that have used my system have commented on how much they like the feel of the unit in thier hands. The Cvolutuion has a larger knob and it fits in your hand very well. The handunit is also amidextrous for left handed AC's it feels the same. *Simpler UI* I can't imagine a more simpler UI than the Cvolution GUI and slector wheel. Many AC's first comment " So it's just like the Alexa selector wheel?" yes it is....rotate and select menu's. Push to enter. Just like an Alexa. Very intuitive. The color LCD graphical interface you can learn in 5 mins. I know they both work very well. I know they both have a great product. Buy whatever you think works best for you and your situation. Read up all the information on both and try both out for yourself.
Richard James Lewis
I bought mine through Optical Support who have been very helpful if anything has ever gone wrong (warrantee repairs) All done in house, no need to ship units bak to the US. Most focus pullers I meet still prefer the Preston. The lens mapping is really great, and once people know how to use it they agree that its the best way to do things. EDIT: I did go with the Heden motors tho 26VE, as I prefer them over the Preston ones. They are easier to mount and more compact/ lighter. Rick. How about for Europe? It would seem dealing with C-Motion as a Europe based operator would be slightly more advantageous than having to ship a Preston unit off to LA for servicing etc. Would OP's on here go for Preston over C-Motion if you were not based in LA or the USA. I have a Bartech at the moment but some nice TV work down the line has got me thinking I need to upgrade. C-Motion 2 motor package - £12000 Preston System - £18000 Is the extra 6k worth it!?
