Victor Chon Posted April 18, 2012 Report Share Posted April 18, 2012 Hello Forum Members, I just wanted to check-in to say "hello". First off, I have zero steadicam experience. I believe the most I've touched steadicam equipment was when I guided an operator through a sketchy move where he was walking backwards. LOL I currently work mostly in the commercial world as an LP, PM, AD, AC and of course I still PA. As you can tell, I'm at a bit of a crossroad in my career where I have to choose what I want to do with it. I have been fascinated since the first time I laid eyes on a steadicam. I somehow stumbled upon this forum while reading manuals and other literature online. I will be lurking around burning my eyeballs out after wrap reading threads old and new. Also, If any operators need an extra hand I am happily willing to intern. I would suggest reading the archives here to get more inside information and than later on taking a workshop. Fabian Meller Posted April 18, 2012 Report Share Posted April 18, 2012 Hey Victor! I think you should definitely get to carry a Steadicam for a tiny bit first. Either ask an operator on one of your next shoots or contact someone in your area. Also it might be good to have somebody to ask for all that other questions like own equipment, insurance and working as an operator in the biz. If you still like it - Take a workshop! There's nothing better than that. I learned it myself - Bought a cheap, bad rig from ebay and trained everyday very hard with the help of the Steadicam Operators Handbook and the EFP Training Video (which you should get btw). When I took the Workshop then after 2 years of autonomously leraning it's still been very informative and important! Especially proper posture is hella important and should be learned appropriate from the beginning on! (If I were to get started on steasdicam again I would take a workshop at the very beginning...)
