Hallo all,

I read a lot of posts about wireless transmision and thesedays I'm looking to find out what SD transmision can let me get rid of the cable when working with an SD O.B. van.

Any idea or patent would be appreciated...!

Thanks in advance,

Hi Haris,

i recently bought my own HD capable rig (U2). after long consideration and research i decided to go SD on video transmission to video village eventhough my monitor is HD ultrabrite2. yes it is cumbersome to feed the downconverter(decimator 2) with hd video and active loop it to monitor and at the same time using composite output to feed the titan tx. but at the end it is more reliable and much less expensive.

first of all the reliability part; as the hd transmitters uses a higher radio frequency and carring lots more data then their sd counterparts, the range is very limited. 50 meter LOS is the accepted standard on hd transmission with the portable devices, whereas my sd titans do 150 meters easy and thats without the 9db high performence antennas (then the range becomes 400+ meters). also most of the hd transmitters cut the feed if there is even a slight miscommunication between two units but with the analog units loss of signal is a gradual process starting with just a few noise lines in the picture untill all is lost.

the price range is another issiue. if you want to buy a reliable hd system you are going to need to spend at least $15k. guess what, the sd system will cost you under $5k including the downconverter and the high performence antennas. that is $10k more to spent on other toys or a vacation ;)

but everyday a new technical gizmo comes out and i beleive someday (not tomorrow thoug) we will have reasonable priced and reliable hd transmission devices. (the teradeck products came close but the latency makes the transmission unusable in our line of work as of june 2012)
