Corporate Gig Rate Discount?

Hi All - I'm bidding a corporate gig coming up in the fall. The client has asked for 7 days of work on a multi camera broadcast system. A lot of rental houses offer gear at 1day=1day, 1week=3days, etc. Does the same apply for steadicam rental? I've read so many topics about the market being undercut and I'd rather not perpetuate that. Advice is welcome.

In the markets I work in it seems to be rather standard to give a 3 day rental week. Technically that should be 5 consecutive days billed as 3. So a 6 day shoot week should be billed as 4. 7 as 5.

Broadcast gigs are 1=1 every day worked for us is a rental, only time we give a weekly discount is on a multi month gig.

Good to know. And this is why no one responded sooner. Different markets have different standards and the rates are set accordingly.

What market does 6 for 4 and 7 for 5? Live tv is as used and tv series and features are weekly rates. There is nothing like what you describe

I don't believe there are many rental houses that offer a full size Stabilizer rental to the general public. There was one of us here who did have a Steadicam rental business but not sure if it's still being done. It was too much of a liability to the rental houses.

I think your safe renting your gear out daily, Steadicams are all A La carte and need to be accessorized for each type of job/camera/condition, so only a working op would/should have everything needed for most situations.

From what I understand, COI allows me to claim on the clients policy is something goes wrong, things break. The deal memo is where I specify that they pay the deductible or any expensed occurred, correct?

 

And by the way, thanks all for the insight. I'm still fairly new in this and am soaking up as much as I can. I really want to make sure that I operate as part of this great community of operators. I don't want to be the guy to kill rates for everyone else.

3 day weeks are the norm in episodic and features. I had the impression that the daily equip rate is a bit lower in live tv, so with the 3 day week it works out to a similar ballpark. Kind of a bummer unless it's a long term job

For any tv shoot, whether corporate or broadcast, please do not discount like rental houses. Like Rob and Eric said, each day worked is each day billed for equipment, 1:1.

Yes episodics and features are usually weekly, but you asked about a corporate tv shoot. Most corporate shoots I've done have better budgets than broadcast shoots, so keep that in mind when bidding.

Live is one of the last strongholds where we're all on the same page with rates and rentals. Please don't be the person who screws it up like the other Steadi markets have been screwed.
