Alessandro Ficano Posted June 11, 2012 Report Share Posted June 11, 2012 Hi, this is my first post on this forum. I have buy a Steadicam Merlin for use with my Nikon D800 and Nikon 14/24 f2.8 lens. The weight total of the camera and the lens is 1980gr. setup of the Merlin: ( I = at the front ( I I I I ) = at the bottom The dovelplate is positioned at -2 on O hole The drop time is 1 second The camera is stable but when i move quick left/right or move back and forth the camera is begins to oscillate. Hello Alessandra, i must admit, i dont now very much about these type of smaller rigs. but physics is physics no matter what the size (yeah i know, quantum theory bla bla, i`m all Newton baby!) sorry for the misplaced houmor, i coudn`t resist. what i meant to say is, if you have too much of a pendulum effect that you couln`t resist with your operating hand what you have is too much bootom heaviness. try to move the mass uphill; either by moving the gimbal down or if this isn`t enough by approching the weight upwards or by simply reducing the weights directly below gimbal ( but this one might change your front-back balance radically, i`m not sure, again not familiar with merlin). try to reach at least 2 sec drop time. hope this was helpful. Hi Paul. I tried difference setting but the best one is this. The difference between 14 to 24 can be corrected by adjusting the trim. I have tried with Nikon 20mm f2.8, was more stable and much lighter but the quality and of course the wide angle of 14/24 is unbeatable.
