Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted June 25, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2012 I was under the mistaken impression that Rich already owned an Archer2. If you are going to get a 2nd sled why not make it compatible with your primary sled so all the components are interchangeable (a few have already brought this up). I can see why if you already owned an Ultra or other Tiffen equipment but to go to a system where nothing is the same?! If your mind is made up then so be it...I just don't get it (don't get adding the weights either but I won't get into that -- Chris' posture is so good it's useless for a slouch like me to even try to argue). Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted June 25, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 25, 2012 Will, Rich did not claim there was tiffen bashing in this thread. He was concerned there could be in his initial post. As there has been in other threads I think it's fair to threaten with cheesesteak whopping. Chris, wonderful informative post that acknowledges everyone has different preferences. Telling us in detail why it works perfectly for you is exactly what we need. For anyone in the market for an Archer 2 or similar rig, this thread as a whole is great in that it presents logical reasons for each argument that are based on preferences of each poster. Rich and any other reader can decide which points are more important to them and make an informed decision. The more varying opinions with reasons to back them up, the more useful this thread will be for future buyers.
Premium Members Rich Cottrell Posted June 26, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2012 I am now hitting myself over the head with a cheesesteak! seriously... My whole question of this post was a very specific question of the "real world" weight limits of the Archer. That is the title of the post. While it is always nice to get "extra" feedback, it is also nice to stay on topic. Maybe some of these other topics that have come up would be more meaningful to the archives if a new post/topic was created? That said, my lawyer-- Mr. Brian Freesh-- tells me i should not be threatening anyone with a cheesesteak... even if its is in jest. When hot, they can be considered dangerous weapons. Sorry guys. My apologies. I was concerned that simply asking about this rig there not just could be, but there would be, Tiffen bashing. I kindly ask the moderators to police this post and keep it on topic. Its asks one question "What weight can the Archer's gimbal actually handle and at what point does that smaller center post not handle the heavier setups" Thanks to James Chris and Aron for sharing their experiences with this sled. Anyone have a story of overloading this gimble or sled to the point you know you were in trouble?
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted June 26, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 26, 2012 Hi Rich, The 18kg camera payload maxed my G50, but I guess that's about the max sled limit too, and I mean max. You should not think of regularly flying those weights on an A2 sled. All the best, Chris
Premium Members Matteo Quagliano Posted June 28, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 28, 2012 I own Archer 1, limit is the gimble, not the arm nor the sled. better, G50 will limit you in very slow walks showing your footsteps but that's me, not the arm itself, infact TIffen didn't claim the new arm will solve the problem. (see thread on arms) On a side and not conveying any meanings, Chris teaches Tiffen workshops.
Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted June 28, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 28, 2012 I said no such thing, Rich! I can however legally practice law in 7 third world countries.
Premium Members Peter Sheppard Posted June 30, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 30, 2012 Hi Matteo, I own an A1 but have never really felt the gimbal to be its limiting factor, more so the lack of adjustability which is why I've recently converted the base to a MK-V conversion. I have topped out the G50's weight range, and felt this to be the top of the sled as well, but never really felt the gimbal to be straining. I'm just wondering what you have felt when flying at high weights?
