Snow madness

Looks interesting. I think Dale Henderson is thinking of doing something in the winter along these lines. We may contact you via email to get some advice from you. Our winter starts in about 8 weeks time. Matter of interest, what rig were you using?

Anyone have experience rigging up on a snowmobile? (Sorry, "sled" for my fellow Hosers) Any pictures of cages or mounts? My understanding is that for my shoot, the terrain will be fairly even, and we're not going that fast (maybe 30kph). The thing that seems like a pickle is that the snowmobile is so low to the ground.

Thanks,

Not much different then a Gator or the like, just on snow, as long as you can mount speed rail you can make a cage or let the Key grip do his magic...

Look out for the rubber chain (traction belt or whatever that thing is called that moves the snowmobile...)

If you get a chance on "Lara Croft, Tombraider" there are some great behind the scenes of David Emmerich and a Snowmobile...

Hope that helps,

Erwin

Hi Brett

How are you?

I used a 'trailer' hooked to the snowmobile - this is a good platform and HARD mount to it - LOTS of padding as you do get thrown around - also if you are using a PRO arm make sure there is padding under your sled so you do not bottom out too hard.

Keep your CG low and have fun!!. (watch the corners!)

hope this helps?

All the best

Howard

Hi,

I've been riding a skidoo for two weeks in a row, last feb! You will need a very good rigger...!

Check out these...

If you want more I could mail them to you! Then you can really look at the details...

Gents--

For starters, try and get a hold of a sled that has some adaptable hard points like a SkiDoo 2-up or work sled like a Skandic WT or SWT. These sleds have some rosettes on the rear sides of the tunnel and are used to attach back rest frames.

Since they are on opposing sides of the tunnel, they form perfect hard points to attach rigging to provided you can get the matching rosette half from the appropriate dealer. After that, just bolt together some speed rail to set a cheese plate above the tail end of the seat. You probably should attach a third leg to fashion a tripod effect that braces the cheese plate to the rear handle found on the aft end of the tunnel.

From the cheese plate, you could attach a high hat or even bolt your Garfield right to it. Or even just stay with tubing and mount your vest bridge plate directly with u-bolts.

Just my .02

Thanks for all the great advice guys. And yes, I did get the pictures. Just haven't been back here for a while. Those are very helpfull.

Question: mounting on the towed sled vs on the Skidoo: which config provides for the less jarring ride? Wouldn't the shocks on the skidoo take out more bumps than banging around in the sled? Not that I hope to be going fast enough to get banged around...

Thanks again all,

Brett

Hi Brett!

I tried the trailer version...! To unsafe for me! For slow moves Ok but if you were t go any faster than 20KPH there's no way I'd sit on the trailer!! It's also very importand to be able to talk to the driver of the skidoo!!!

And for the cables: the cameras are wireless! There's no way you could do it on a triax!

Need more pics or help with the setup!? MAil me!
