Brooks,

I've had a couple of situations when I could not get an HD SDI signal on my DP7. After a break from shooting all morning , I turned on the monitor but no picture. I rebooted but still no picture. I was using a Sony 800 fed into a powered HD SDI splitter. One feed to a microwave and one to the monitor thru the sled. I had been using this setup for a week with no problems. I re-powered the splitter, re-powered the monitor and picture came back. It happened a couple of days later with the same setup. I reset the splitter/monitor and the picture came back. I wan't clear if it was the splitter or the monitor.

On anothe note, the recent firmware upgrade 3.0 and 3.01 ... have disabled the analog input. I was on a shoot with a 5D and couldn't get an analog signal. I ended up downgrading the firmware to 2.04 in order to get a composite signal.

Yeah, the 3.0 firmware is really buggy on the DP7. I've gone back to 2.0.4...the monitor simply not booting up properly just got too annoying after a week.

My loader talked to SmallHD today about the issue of the HD signal not being found upon powering up. There is a firmware patch that supposedly solves the issue. It took about 5 minutes per monitor. Haven't done any steadicam yet, but I'll report back if the issue is ongoing afterthe update.

Also, we tested the delay out of the camera (F55) and found a 3 frame delay with both the DP7 high bright and a TV Logic. Further testng revealed a 2 frame delay out of the camera, so the monitor delay was only 1 frame (unless that 1 frame delay came from somewhere else in the line).

Hi guys,

I've had the same problem with my HB DP7. About 1 in every 50 times it won't get a signal, it usually comes back after a reboot but sometimes it takes a couple if goes.

It's a bit of a hassle when they're calling for you on set and your trying to get there as soon as possible.

Just curious, has anyone noticed any correlation between changing formats or anything with the camera when the SDI signal doesn't show? What cameras have everyone noticed this issue with?

I only ask because I have seen situations where (and I'll be nonspecific) a RED Epic Dragon switched from 6K HD to 5K HD (or another resolution) and the monitor loses signal. I think in those situations, I had to reboot the monitor (slower) or just disconnect the SDI feed and reconnect it. Just putting ideas out there. I also don't think my monitor is on the newest newest version of the firmware (maybe still on the 2.xx versions).

I'll verify my firmware tomorrow and post it here. Maybe we can track the issue down to the firmware version, and create a blacklist of firmware versions where this issue is known to occur?

And also for all the previous delay tests, it would be interesting to know which firmware the monitor runs.

Some results seems different and may be the firmware version has something to do with, just guessing...

On my "DP7 Pro HB Firmware Capicola 3.0, Image Engine 3.1.1, Hardware Interface 54" the latency is about 3 frames.

Which firmware version do you have?

What is this firmware patch? Is it the next firmware release?

I've been searching on SmallHD website for "patch" as keyword but I've found nothing.

David,

I'm not sure what firmware I have but I believe it is the most recent one. My loader talked to SmallHD and the issue of the monitor not always recognizing the signal is (I believe) a known issue that now has a work-around or patch. I think if you call them they can sort you out. I'll talk to my loader on Monday and find out what steps he took, but I believe they gave him a list of what needed to happen and he simply followed the steps. He said it wasn't a big deal, and that both of my monitors were done quickly. I didn't have any issues after the update, but yesterday was a light steadicam day, and I don't know if the issue is fixed for good or not.

ive had a lot of issues with the signal, be it from a teradek or camera direct. i recently updated the firmware, and unless the patch is somethin different, i still have had lots of conneciton issues. i end up power cycling, repatching cables, etc. still havent come up with a great solution. this has been on all REDs, Canon C300, HDMI and SDI. The best Ive found so far is to have the camera on, cables in, connection for monitor chosen, then to power on monitor. This has been the best, but not 100%.

I just got my DP7 Pro HB.

I am seeing some weird uneven illumination (aka a bright spot) on the left edge of the frame. Checked

in with Small HD and they claimed that all their monitors have that to a certain degree.

Not necessarily something that I want to see on my monitor....

Anybody else seen this ?
