Premium Members JimBartell Posted March 28, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2005 After reading about it for the Nth time and finding two viruses that made it past all my protections I finally decided to switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox from Mozilla. For the most part the swicth has been painless, but the only "big" problem I have is that when I use the "View New Posts" tab to see what new messages have been added and then use the "Mark all messages as read and return to forums selection", the messages don't get marked as read and keep showing up as new. The only way to get rid of them is to log out and back in. Then they show up as read. Any ideas? Jim "out-foxed" Bartell
Premium Members JimBartell Posted April 13, 2005 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 13, 2005 Well, after a complete operating system meltdown (not related to this issue) I had to re-install my OS and bring the system up from scratch. Ever since then, the problem went away and everything is working fine. FYI, Firefox/Thunderbird is WAAAYYY more secure than IE/OE and have pop-up blocking/spam removal built in. Basically they have the same functionality, are free, and are a fun way to poke Bill Gates in the eye. Jim "poke, poke" Bartell
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted April 14, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2005 I´m using Firefox from it´s beginning and it´s very good. Jim, maybe you have allready installed Adblock, that´s very handy too for websites that you have to visit reguarly but they give you all the shitty ads first before the content. Much faster loading now and no annoying windows, ads, pop-ups.

It's worth a read. Popular Science article. Jim "no one more fanatical than a convert" Bartell

Premium Members Jason Williams Posted May 2, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 2, 2005 I love Firefox although there are issues with certain sites, hopefully they'll iron these out and prove Microsoft don't have a monopoly on how you view the web :)
