Wireless Follow Focus-Bartech for Archer II

I recently purchased the Archer II, and on the stage there is a plug for a 3 pin lemo, but it says 12/24 volts, if I plug the Wireless FF into that will it be okay. The wireless follow focus needs a 2 pin lemo to power it, but I have an adapter thats a 2 pin lemo-XLRs that make it into a 3 pin lemo. Is there a better way of powering it, or is this method okay. Also I am worried about the 12 volt and 24 volt, will that be a problem, I know the 3 pin lemo says 12/24, is there a certain way to set it up, or would I need to buy another type of adapter.

As far as I know you should be fine. I'm not electrician, and can't say I understand powering things even at a novice level. But if I remember correctly, you can power the Digital Receiver with anything in between 10 and 30 volts. I don't know the specs for the Analog, but I would assume it's at least similar. Regardless, you should be fine with the Digital.

 

With that said, I actually prefer to run my Bartech at 24v if at all possible. It allows the motor to turn at a higher velocity, at least in my experience.

 

Don't quote me on it, but I think I remember Jim Bartell actually recommending that it be run at 24v for better performance. Maybe Jim will pipe in.

If you put 24V into an analog BFD it will erupt in smoke. The digital BDR can take 24V but the analog receiver can take 17V maximum. You need a cable 3015 that takes 12V power from the 3-pin Lemo to the receiver. I don't know if the adapter cable you have uses the 12V pin or the 24V pin.

easy way to find out is to grab a multimeter (either your own or check and see if an electri on set has one) and meter the 2 pin side of the cable for voltage while you have it plugged in and hot from the sled. it will tell you if the cable is wired for 12 or 24 volts.

How many 24v cameras are you using? To test the cable, just power the rig with one 12v battery and see if the cable contraption works. If it does, you're carrying 12v through the cable, not 24v. I suppose it's still possible something is mis-wired and if you ever power 24v that the cable will carry it

 

That said, if you will need the 24v power through the rig:

 

Sounds like what you have is fine. On the Archer, one of those 3 pins is 12v, another 24v. The 3pin Lemo to 4pin XLR that came with the rig is a 12v cable only, so it is wired to the 12v pin and not the 24v.

 

I can't be 100% certain without a little more specificity about the cables you have and where they came from, etc... Pictures would help.

 

The best assumption based on what you said is that it will work. But why risk unless you're sure? Jerry's right, get a cable straight from one to the other from Jim. Short of that, JP is right, just test with a multimeter first. But your first easiest test is at the top of my post.
