Premium Members Sanjay Sami Posted August 30, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 30, 2012 Hey Sanjay, I'm really looking forward to seeing you at Cinec! I did a commercial shoot on Friday, mostly on the Steadiseg. It was a busy day, and I didn't get around to changing out of my street Salamons. Then I had to do a slow tracking shot in the vest, and I couldn't figure out why I felt so unstable. My foot and ankle muscles were working too hard in balancing me. Then I remembered to change to the 5F, and immediately I felt grounded. You really have to give them a try. OK, they do look silly. All the best, Chris Hey Chris, They dont fit me. I have VERY broad hands and feet. I need XXL gloves to fit my hands. I have not found any of them that fit me. Perhaps custom made :-) I will give the other one you recommend a try . Look forward to seeing you at Cinec. I am hoping I get a proper weekend off at that time. Really looking forward to trying the Exovest. Premium Members David M. Aronson Posted August 30, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 30, 2012 Five fingers all the way. I have a pair of both the Komodosports and the Treksports. I tend to only use them indoors or on smooth pavement. If you step on a rock or gravel with these, you'll feel it and it will hurt.

Walked through an obsidian crater at Mono lake without problems. Hiked around June lakes up to the snow-line. I think your feet toughen up after a year or so in them, Chris. You sir, have much tougher feet than I do. (and a much cooler vest. Any clue on availability yet?)
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted August 30, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 30, 2012 One of the many little changes that happen when switching to the minimals, apart from the calf and foot muscle strength, is that you build up fatty pads beneath the bones of your feet that contact the ground. So my feet may just be fatter ;) And yes, the vest. I just had a long Skype call to the US where Jerry is finishing our last batch of prototypes for IBC and Cinec. From there we move directly to the production model. I'm very happy with the results so far. Soon, I promise. All the best, Chris
Premium Members Rob Vuona SOC Posted August 31, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 31, 2012 Ok I have to chime in on these Monkey shoes y'all are wearing . . . . .LOL . . . . my personal opinion, I think there should be a a sixth foam toe added to the inside heal to keep them looking authentic . . . . . hahahahaha In all seriousness, I tried a comparable pair and tried them for a week on a live show, I have to say they fatigued the crap out of my feet and I found myself thinking about my feet and not about my shooting. When I got home it was all about my sore dogs, so thankfully REI happily let me return them. I don't deny that they let you feel the ground and they very well may allow you to get stronger foot pads and calves over time but for the love of Gawd my feet hurt and trying to play Ice Hockey and ski with sore feet just doesn't work for me Just my two cents Enjoy your day, feeling the ground

You gotta love REI. Yea, it took me a year to break my feet in. I guess jumping straight into a live show was optimistic. Chris
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted September 2, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 2, 2012 They dont fit me. Your not the only one. I have a very wide forefoot and ridiculously long monkey toes. New balance is the only company I have found that makes a shoe shaped properly for my foot in a wide size. Love them but in many situations I prefer operating barefoot and I would love a shoe that gave me the feeling without getting dirty looks from people who care about OSHA. I have been told that you can take a torch and a pair of pliers to five fingers to stretch them but haven't gotten around to seeing if that will work out for me or not. Wonder how REI would feel about someone trying to return a scorched half melted pair :-) ~Jess
Brent Johnson
I also own a pair of 5F and I love them, sersiouly. I am currently training with them as well. It's taking my calves getting used to forefoot running. I can only Op for about 8hrs or so until my heels hurt then I have to switch to my Salomons. It's a worth while process though. Premium Members Victor Lazaro Posted October 12, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 12, 2012 Interesting, I saw these and think they might be able to accommodate one of my weird orthotics that I have to wear to walk normally, think you people might have tempted me out of my meindl's at some point.... http://www.vibramfivefingers.it/product_details.aspx?model=Trek%20Ls I use the Vibram as well. I bought the Komodosport LS (in red) as they have a harder sole while sill keeping a good flexibility (the color doesn't do anything other than making them sexier). http://goo.gl/GDyhl
Premium Members richard bellon Posted February 10, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 10, 2016 devastated to find out they no longer making new balance minimus... any recommendations on similar type trainers?
Premium Members chris fawcett Posted February 11, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 11, 2016 That sucks, but Merrell still makes minimal shoes.
Premium Members Tom Wilkinson Posted February 11, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 11, 2016 I've tried the vibro barefoot thing. i know what you say Chris about building up to wearing them. Maybe i should try them again... For now I've settled for a kind of half half between Chris and James; I use Nike Free Run but i put a Birkenstock innersole inside instead of the crappy Nike one that is supplied. I find the Birkenstock innersole gives me enough support while the Nike Free trainers are just so light simple, you can feel every bump you walk over. For muddy and wet work i just use the lightest walking boot i can find. North face do a good one as do Mammut. Some times i put the Birkenstock inner sole into these too. Premium Members Sanjay Sami Posted February 11, 2016 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 11, 2016 I spent 3 days operating barefoot in a temple that required us to be shoe-less. 12 hours a day on hard stone was not as bad as I expected. But it felt great getting my shoes on at the end of each day.
