Need help to zoom out ultrabrite2 video image

Hello Everyone.

 

After several months of use I’ve decided that the ulrabrite2 monitor is too big for my taste. Can you help me find a way to zoom out UB2s image?

 

İ mostly feed the monitor with down-converted SD video from decimator2 via Ultra2s frame line- generator so I could have artificial horizon and frame lines on screen. So what I need is a small, SD video scaler or even a HD scaler (in that case using it before the decimator) if such things even exists.

 

Although the Ultrabrite2 monitor exceeded all my expectations in performance, its huge size doesn’t fit well with me. İ find myself battling constantly to see the whole image. Even when I do, it`s taking me more time to scan the image.

 

I’m still paying for loans of my setup so I can`t invest on the new Cinetronic monitors just yet.

PS: Yes, the UB2 monitor does have a zoom function built-in; No, it just modifies the image size between under-over scan scales, so; not enough.

That's always been one of the problems with a monitor larger than 6" or 7" too much area to scan

the monitor is based on the boland hard and software, it has a PIP (PICTURE IN PICTURE) function that lets you see 2 inputs at the same time, side by side, (smaller) check the menu

Hello again,

 

Sadly the PIP or PBP feature on the monitor didn`t help; first, because it needs two separate video signals to work or it keeps searching for the second signal with a huge watermark on the screen until it resets itself. And secondly even the biggest setting for PIP is too small(irony ?) to operate comfortably.

 

So, I’m still searching for a solution to make the video image on UB2 smaller. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It might be a small circuit, a software upgrade or a downconverter like device. Even a way to get smaller images out of Alexa might help me as 90 percent of my jobs is with it.

Thanks for emailing me.

 

You are using the Tiffen monitor right? That model may have similar features on the menu, but it really isn't built on Boland's firmware. Completely different company.......sorry :-(

Hello guys,

 

I don’t want to hijack the top story spot but I still don’t have a solution for my smaller image on UB2 quest and I feel there is some very simple solution but it continues to elude me.

 

Previously on “SMALLER IS BETTER”

 

.After several months of use, I decided I was more comfortable with a smaller image.

.I tried PIP and PBP functions of the of the monitor but it doesn’t work without a second video signal and when it does work the image becomes too small (!)

.I tried zoom function within OSD but it only zooms in

.I tried custom aspect ratio in OSD but it only modifies the image size to underscan sizes so not enough improvment

.I messed around Alexas monitor out and rec out options. it didn`t help and made the DIT very nervous.

.I contacted BOLAND hoping the OSD on Ultrabrite is from their company, but it isn`t.

.I contacted Tiffen. They proposed me to trade with a smaller Transvideo monitor. But I didn`t want to lose amazing daylight viewing capabilities of Ultrabrite2

.I downloaded USB control panel for my decimator2. It offers very detailed scaling options but only to HDMI out.

 

The only time I could get a smaller image was when I used STWOs video out to feed the monitor. It ALMOST made up for additional weight.

 

This will be the last time I’m going to bother you guys about this. I have nearly accepted my fate. It only bothers me this much because I didn`t think getting a smaller image would be this hard to achieve. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

OK. Why don't you convert the signal back to HD-SDI with something like this?

yep. i tried it. the custom aspect ratio function in the OSD is mainly a H and V resizer. it did give me slightly smaller image but not enough. i`m tring to reach a 6 inch image on the 8.4 inch screen.

ok, did you try to down convert the scaled HDMI signal to NTSC/PAL?

this is my last try,

 

HDMI is the same Video signal as DVI, which your monitor has an input for!

 

Your artificial horizon (GREEN LEDs) on the U2 Ultrabright works for that reason, when you feed an SDI or DVI signal,

 

also to solve your problem:

 

feed the HD-SDI signal into your top of your sled, on the bottom feed it into the Decimator II.

 

scale your image and make it HDMI, buy a HDMI to DVI cable, feed that in the monitor

 

look at your green level and be happy

 

also the Alexa gives you framelines over the HD-SDI monitor out, I'm done.....

Once again the search for smaller image on UB2 is failed!

 

After today’s testing we learned that the HDMI scaling option provided by DECIMATOR2s USB control panel, does its job by changing the resolution of the image as a whole. Which means it doesn`t put black bars around to make the image smaller but it downscales the whole image but keeps it full screen.

 

Now, thinking backwards; expecting the down-converter to scale an image by putting black bars around (thus zooming out) was not very logical.

 

I still don`t have a viable clue how to get a smaller image on my ultrabrite2 but I won’t bother the forum again until someone would think of a new approach.
