Little pearls of Wisdom

For all my fellow newbies,

As I hope you are all aware this forum has been around for several years, and prior to that the AOL folders were the place to hang out and discuss all things Steadi-related. At present there are archived posts, from both of these forums, available on line dating back as far as 1995.

Ive just spent the last three weeks, on and off, re-reading every single post, and compiling them into an edited document full of hints, tips, anecdotes and steadicam history. I have compiled almost 100 pages worth of information which is, to me, priceless. This same information is available to all of us, and id like to respectfully suggest that we all revisit it from time to time. Contained in these archived forums and folders are the pearls of wisdom from hundreds of Operators around the world, some even from master operators.

This is not the first time I have read these posts, nor the second, but it never ceases to amaze me how much I learn, or how much I have forgotten every time I re-read them.

So please take some time to read (or re-read) our history and see how much you've forgotten:) You might learn something you thought you already knew.

Some of the AOL folders are available on the www.steadicamguild.net

Sincerely,

Can you post the edited document for us all to read perhaps ?

Hi Matt,

I dont think that would be practical. My edited document is just a cut and paste collection of some of the conversations that have taken place on the various forums over the last 10 years. The information is already online for everyone to read - i just collected some of it in a manner thats easier for me to re-read from time to time. Others may find what i have collected to be irrelevant or may find other information that i have not collected to be more relevant to where they are in their steadicam careers.

I think it would be better if people took the time to read the forums from the begining (the aol folders) and decided what was relevant to them, and saw the information in its original context, but if anyone would rather take the quicker/easier route and get a copy of my notes then i could email you it off list.
