Paralinx SHIELD

Hi Nelson,

It's not perfect but the price/performance cannot be beaten right now. It will deliver a zero latency HD image up to 300' in the smallest package .

My biggest concern is the HDMI connector, it's the weakest link on that device. The SHIELD is a must because without one; just the vibration of docking the sled sometimes was enough for the image to disappear ; moving the HDMI connector took care of that. Even if the thing was made of solid aluminum, the HDMI connector is still an abortion for a pro use.

Best bang for the buck if you are gentle with the sender. I am personnaly waiting for a HDSDI version of the Paralinx, if there is ever one , and teradek is also coming out with something similar called BOLT.... Let the game begins.

Frederic

Alec,

Any ideas on when the Bolt is actually going to ship? I've heard that it was supposed to be in the first part of this month.

EDIT: according to their Twitter feed, they will ship in bulk before November. Also, there is a zero frame delay test video that can be found here:

Only thing, for our intended purposes, is that there is not -- as of yet -- a distance and zero frame delay test.

Hi Alec,

We have not forgotten that people want HD-SDI, and believe me - SDI was part of my plan since day zero.

Obviously it is not cheap or easy to build a product like this or we would have just done it already.

CineGear was only 5 months ago.

The Teradek Bolt takes a very cheap way of introducing HD-SDi - it is simply put an HDMI device like ours with SDI converters on both sides in a decent box.

Our SDI product will not be taking cheap shortcuts - we want to deliver the best to our customers always.

Frederic - thank you so much for championing our product - we appreciate it.

Hi Dan,

In a post written by you on the REDUser forum on June 2 you said, "It is HDMI Only, and we have ZERO plans on releasing an HD-SDI version at this time."

It seems that post has been edited since to remove that specific line. Why the change?

I'm also curious what about the Teradek is cheap HDSDI? I don't know enough about wireless technology to judge beyond if something works and has the features I need. What differentiates the cheap from the non cheap? Is it just keeping the signal natively in SDI with no conversion to HDMI? As long as they're not recording off of the transmitted signal, it doesn't matter much to me what happens to it as long as it gets there with near zero delay.

Twojay, I'm not sure when they are shipping. I have not actually contacted them yet as I wanted to let others be the first to buy and then hear their opinions. Most of my shows still carry a Boxx so I'm not really in a huge rush.

Dan, that is great news. I do realize that its only been five months since Cinegear but I had not heard anything official about you planning a newer model. Please do keep me informed - will the relink time be faster when the signal is lost for a moment?

I wasn't kidding in my last post when I said the guys at Paralinx were very nice; they went out of their way to show us their product so I'm not bashing it - just saying that I want HDSDI. As for converting the signal in the box, what are the ramifications of this if there is no delay?

Thanks all.

Nothing is "wrong" with it Per Se.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I prefer not to telegraph any of what WE are doing to our competitors who I am CERTAIN are reading this.

I don't want to advertise for them at all so I'm not even going to mention their name - but IF and WHEN the competitor product comes out, if someone does a teardown on it, they will see what I mean.

Times are crazy - everyone wants to eat, and I'm not trying to take bread out of anyone's mouth - BUT I can tell you there is a reason for the way we do everything we do, and we can't be a GOD product on our first release - but I can say we have many happy customers, and we aim to have many more happy customers added to the roster for the rest of this year, and next year.

Best to All,

Dan
