Casey Stein
Hey all, I'm not sure if this is done here, but I'm shooting a short next weekend and we're in need of a steadicam op. I'm the DP on the project, but this is my first time using a steadicam operator. Quick notes on the project: 1) Shooting on the Jersey shore (about an hour south of NYC) 2) Camera: Alexa Plus w/ Ultra Primes (maybe the cooke 25-250, but if this proves to be too much of a pain for steadicam--I'll kill it) 3) Can pay somewhere around $600 for the day 4) Shooting on 11/8/12 all day. Hopefully I won't get any flack for posting. I could have called Local 600 and asked them, but I would rather find someone who's just getting started (or anyone who will work on a student price) Email me at: CaseyJStein@gmail.com
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted October 31, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 31, 2012 You might have a bit of a problem getting a student rate with that kit. Most beginner and intermediate stabilizers won't be able to hold the weight, and the systems that can hold that weight rent for more than $600 (minus the operator rate). Evrim KAYA
Wow Casey! You’re either very courageous or extremely naïve to post about this “job” offering here. 600 USD for an all-day Alexa job (op+equipment) is beyond lowballing! You either have to raise the offer to a reasonable rate or cancel the steadi altogether. By the way, YES Cooke 25-250 is indeed too much pain for Steadicam!! Surely not for a 600 USD job! Premium Members Daniel Erbeck Posted November 1, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 1, 2012 You do realize the Jersey Shore has been destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and there not allowing anyone down there right?
Casey Stein
Thanks for the words dudes! I assumed the 25-250 would be too much of a pain, glad I asked. EDIT: yes, Sandy has reared her ugly head. But we haven't heard about our location so for the meantime, we need to keep moving forward no matter what. Casey here's a good rule of thumb, if you would handhold the configuration of camera that you are asking the steadicam op fly then it's a reasonable request. You would never hand hold a 10-1....
