In condensing my kit I am considering a carry on that will include my monitor and possibly my BFDs and the modulus. Anybody have any trouble with these items security wise? I am going to pack the manuals for the above items hoping that they may soothe the fears of the nice security people. Comments? Ideas? I never had a problem at the airports, but then again the only thing I took as carry on was my vest and arm. In fact I was told that I had too much carry on baggage. I pulled my vest out of the bag and said that I had a bad back and the vest is a custom brace that I could not possibly loose in the luggage. This was all Pre 9-11 and it worked beautifully. TJ Williams Posted April 15, 2005 Report Share Posted April 15, 2005 Watch out for the search... recently had the security goofs close the box pinching some wiring after they had apppearantly pulled the pieces out of their fitted holes.... and put them back wrong.... makes ya think they came straight from Mcdonalds.... At some airports you can follow the stuff over to an oversize etc. area and watch them look thru it.... although that doesn't guarantee that it will not be opened and checked again down in the bowel of the airport....Still this does make me feel better. There is now security complete with dogs on the commuter ferries here. this is just getting going, which has made me very afraid to update to Lithium batts (they can be made to explode) which will(in the future maybe) add to the comment George had only the batteries.... Whose to know what to do here. A battery so that you can light up the rig.... Goood.... A battery they can't see inside of...maybe not so goood??? LOve the Back brace!!!!! Of course it did not fit in the overhead bin so I had to store it under the seat. It did not fit very well down there either. The guy next to me was bummed on the leg room. The airport did not give me any trouble about it though. They were more concerned with my portable dvd player and my in flight porn (just kidding). Its cold here!!!! Watching them root through your cases without being able to help them repack is one of the worst things that I go through. I always try to get production to fedex or piggyback with the camera package. Scheduling does not always allow for this, so that time behind the stanchions usually involves me saying something like "make sure you put that in correctly". Luckily nothing bad has happened but it takes so long to get through security and baggage claim I often feel like I should get paid for a full day travel. Paul <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You should get paid for a full days travel. Flying with your gear warrants a full day. I don't think that's unreasonable. I've had several companies in the past say that travel doesn't warrant pay at all. And this was international. So I asked who was making sure all the gear (not just mine but theirs as well) was present and accounted for. Not to mention dealing with any search and carne issues. They relented.
