Just tried out the G70 flying an Ultra at the Tiffen stand at IBC. It is super smooth, and booms forever. Interesting co-axial spring design too (little spring inside big one), to get the tension to adjust from 15 to 70 lbs. Same honeycomb bones as the G50. It looks amazing.

Chris, you beat me on this! I wanted to bring the news!

Nevermind, here are some pictures from the arms and Garrett Brown takes it through its full boomrange.

Looks like a very nice design, clean and clever. Price for the G70 not defined yet but expect something like 13-15.000 US$

Also Jerry Holway is there, very proud of this new G70, excited as it brand new, just out of the factory!

I tried the arm too, very smooth and a nice feature is that is "slows down" to a stop when you reach the end of the boom range. No lock-ups and this is adjustable; a second knob can make it feel more springy, IIIa -like or more ISO Elastic, just what you want, like or need for a shot.

I guess i'll chime in with my oppinion of the G70 (and G50) arms..

Very very nice arms! The G50 weighs very little, and the G70 ain't that heavy either.

The capaciaty range on the G70 is from 15lbs(!) up to of course 70lbs .... so that is bascailly an empty sled and up!

It sounds like though this is the prototype/first off the line G70, that it will probably very soon be repalcing the Master/Ultra arm.

It's just lighter, stiffer (less play), sexier, and smoother. :-)

Having had the fortune of playing with the G50 for an entire week during the Yellow Springs workshop in may, I have only nice things to say about it, with the only doubt being the 50lb limit. Now that Jerry, Garrett and Tiffen have cracked the engineering for the G70 it's time to start saving my pennies.

Does Tiffen have an availability date for it yet?

Interesting you mention the doubt in the 50lb limit. The G50 was well used and admired at my recent workshop in Rockport, ME. Everyone really liked it until it failed with a 45lb load. We were told it was a prototype.

I thought I had the best gear, till last Friday I did.

I tried Jerry's/Garret's G 70, it is amazing, the boom range, the smoothness, the damping on stops, the weight, the looks, etc.

I do not work for Tiffen, but I do make a living with their gear.

best

FYI-

The part that failed at Rockport was a helicoil that backed out of an aluminum protototype part holding the weight adjustment carrier. The production arm's part was already changed to a steel part, with no helicoil to back out. Problem fixed before prototype failed in Rockport, but before we could switch it out in prototype.

G-70 also uses a solid steel part, no helicoil.

That's good to know, since other than that, everyone loved the look and performance of the arm, even next to a brand new Ultra.

Just like to point out that my doubts about the 50lb limit had more to do with the use in the industry once you have a fully loaded sled with 35mm package and all of the extras that might get added to it, NOT the ability of the arm to deal with it's advertised range.

Anyone have any spare change?
