Premium Members Colin Donahue Posted December 12, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 12, 2012 After seeing a few others change out the lemo on the top stage of their Ultras, I decided to give it a shot on my original Archer. I have not hooked anything up yet because I am still waiting for the screw on connector for the back of the bnc. Since I have basically the whole sled taken apart, I was considering a wiring upgrade. It appears that my current power is carried by 24 awg wire, and I thought about replacing it with 16 awg. The problem is that my power lemo at the stage is an EXG 0B. It is only rated at 6 amps.... so will fatter wire (16 awg) be of any benefit? I tested a piece and it will fit into the connector on the board. The other option is to upgrade the power lemo at the stage. Right now it is an elbow that is connected to a board. I could possibly unsolder it and put in a larger one, not an elbow, but what would fit? would it be worth it? I have not had any power issues, but I have read on this forum that 24 gauge wire could present problems. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Colin
Mohamad Faiz
Are you upgrading the sled to 24v???
Premium Members Colin Donahue Posted December 12, 2012 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted December 12, 2012 Mohamad, for now I am keeping it at 12 volts. Colin
Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted December 13, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2012 Colin- no harm, and some benefit switching to 16 gauge wire if it will fit down the post (it should). As it is a non-destructive mod, you can easily give it a try. Flipping the Lemo to a larger size would require, I think, cutting into the printed circuit board as well as drilling a larger hole in the end piece. I don't think that would be worth it.
