BON Monitors... anyone used one?

Hello everyone,

I had a direct email sent to me from the manufacturer... from what it looks like a direct target to all Jimmy Jib operators. A pdf file was included. It has close to all the specs we would like for our rigs. http://www.bon.co.kr/eng/products/models.html?model=bsm152h

Here is the offer:

"Special offer, pre-order promotional period, January 30, 2013: USD $1,899. List Price: 2,699.00

Wire transfer or Paypal. Delivery lead time middle of February. Warranty 15 months after delivery date. Shipped from Seoul Korea by DHL or FedEx."

It also contains bank information to send funds over. All information included in pdf file.

I have a pdf file I need to uplink for you guys to see, but the .pdf file is way too big to upload, I would gladly email the pdf for you all to see. It contains specs and pictures, but the pictures looked "enhanced".

So, I hope someone has some experience with these monitors... I wish I can go to NAB to compare all monitors.

Personally, I have the Marshall monitor: http://www.lcdracks.com/monitors/model/V-R1041DP-AFHD.php

Its okay, but too weak in sunlight, no 3G-SDI, HDMI support.

I've used my BON for a couple of weeks now. It's a good monitor, specially when you think about the price tag. It costs under half of the Cinetronic. Not trying to start a thread about BON vs Cinetronic, BON would loose, but not everybody wants to spend $ 5K+ on a monitor on their rig.

There's no AR coating though. So for the guys who's gotten used to using monitors with AR coating, BON might not be their cup of tea. I on the other hand, upgraded to the BON from Tiffen 7" 700nit monitor, so I'm pleased so far.

The viewing is good. Even w/o the coating, the outdoor use is good. Yes, the sky will reflect onto the screen, but you just need to tell your eyes to focus on the screen, not the sky. Works for me. When you use the bright outdoor function the screen is remarkably bright. Fantastic.

All the usual extras that you're used to having on a HD-SDI monitor is there. Waveform, vectorscope, false color etc.

My biggest issue is this; their customer service sucks. Lack of info after ordering has been a pain. Also a lot of messages saying it would come soon, then a new message saying it will be delayed. This happened several times. Had to really push hard with numerous international calls telling them it was important the monitor arrived before a specific date. Don't know if I caught them in a really bad time, or they think that South-Korea it their primary market, but it was really frustrating.

I really did regret not ordering the Ikan (which is 100% same specs, just about 450 grams lighter) directly from B&H, would have the monitor within 3 business days, and save $200 and a lot of stress. . According to Rob Vuona BON also makes the Ikan, so they should be identical.

Hi Rob,

I ordered through Armato's in N.Y. They used a BON rep when they processed my order. Armatos was equally frustrated about the lack of info. Don't know if the problems had anything to do with the rep though. Seemed like most of the problems was located in South-Korea. But as I said, their customer service sucks big time.
