Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted May 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Try some more complex shots with longer lenses, work on getting rid of the footsteps, watch your headroom and lead-room, and please lose the attitude. Are you looking for constructive criticism, or do you think that you are showing off? Why don't you try doing a shot like this: Edited May 15, 2013 by Alan Rencher

Dmitry Burenok
Yeah I do understand that sort of feeling guys, when you spending decades and freaking amount of money building your gear and some prank with cheap crap saying he can do that. This is widely happens in the entire industry - you can feel that, thanks for RED - no more overnight dailies, no more DOP staying next to god, everything can be instantly played back and become questionable right away, magic about unprecedented professionalism slowly dissipates... Every project on a budget :) sorry. And damn Canucks (and I'm proudly one of them) keep stealing job's from California :))) And wide lenses - you know, people like it, THEY think it is cool, thanks for go pro camera who's made them tasteless, ha ha. If someone made almost the same gear for couple dimes, 99.99% of the clients will accept the result, cause it will be so damn close. So we struggling for 0.01% of perfectionists, who still wants to shoot film instead of Alexa/RED and pay super cool Steadicam DOP $20K per day? I'm not sure. Some of us really frustrated, others look for opportunity. Edited May 16, 2013 by Dmitry Burenok
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted May 16, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 16, 2013 Just work on your horizon a bit...you'll eventually (probably sooner than later) reach the limits of your budget system's capabilities and desire something more. Trust me...real clients know the difference...throw a 100mm on there and you will too. As far as your remark about Canada -- this business goes anywhere it can save a dime so it's not just Canada...it's many other states as well as several other counties that production has gone to from LA...nextvyear there will be somewhere new tbat offers even more savings (that go right into the pockets where?). I have many friends in the great white north and have worked there a bit -- good times.
Premium Members Steve Acheson Posted May 20, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 20, 2013 So I ran across this the other day... This guy says he is going to invent a rig that can be operated while sitting in a chair... I tried saying that already exist... http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=59788&hl= a whole forum about home built rigs.... http://homebuiltstabilizers.com/hbsboard/index.php
Stefan Baltz
So we struggling for 0.01% of perfectionists, who still wants to shoot film instead of Alexa/RED and pay super cool Steadicam DOP $20K per day? please have a look at how many feature films are still shot on 16/35, before stating shooting film is something for the 0.01% old-fashioned perfectionists who deny the "glory future" of digital :/
EH Marshall
This seems to fit on this thread nicely.
