Chinese Knock off steadicam's are starting to piss me off

On way of seeing things, it could be a bonus for the Steadicam community with people with smaller budget becoming interested in the system. After buying a Chinese one, they will realize its limitations and orient themselves toward a real piece of gear if they wish to pursue their career in this direction.

This is one thing that annoys me about the red mindset. I'm not saying this about every red owener, but a lot of then think that because they bought this magic camera, they can buy the cheapest crap for everything else and their films will turn out great. Lights, tripods, steadycams, batteries, etc. 7 out of 10 Red owners I've ever dealt with have been like this. Five of them wouldn't let me use my lighter and much more powerful Dionics and insisted that I fly with either red volts and/or the red bricks on the back of the camera. One of them actually said to the AD, knowing that I was within earshot, that they shouldn't have hired a Steadicam op because he had a really nice flycam in his car.

Yeah, the crowd of people that pull shenanigans like bringing a Panasonic P2 camera to a documentary shoot with no P2 cards because they are a 'rip off' have bought up into 'entry level cinema cameras'. Audio ruined because the laptop/leafblower that cost 8xP2 cards "had" to be used to record picture? Totally the microphone's fault, those things cost like over $100 bucks why don't they put a computer in those to get rid of sound like a smartphone? Those P2 cards are a ripoff...

Now that they conquered that brave frontier, they've cast their eyes about for their next conquest.

On the plus side, it seems that the same mob figures that lighting is also a crap Hollywood elitist scam, cameras should shoot in the dark and make everything you point them at look pretty with no work. This means you won't have to worry about crossing a light anymore. Also, the AC can fetch coffee now, the camera should focus itself, there's a computer in it...

Here is a Varizoom rig at the Superbowl Media Day. The op walked into the superdome with no stand, gets to security sets the rig on the base then lets it fall on to the mat, same for the arm. I watched him do that several times throughout the day as well as operate as far down as he could get his hand to the base of the sled... Totally unprofessional, but im sure this is future of our business, producers dont care as long as its cheap and looks "OK"...

That's clearly not a CBS Sports crew member's rig. So many media are credentialed at College and NFL events, and I frequently see team videographers and local news using DSLR's and amatuer rigs. If it were an NBC event, I could probably tell you exactly who the on-field operators are. The poor guy operating this probably wouldn't know production quality if it hit him in the face, and his client doesn't either. I'm certain he's not working for the TV broadcast though.
