Need operator controlled Zoom controll

I have a multi camera shoot on in NYC on Monday and have just found out I am going to be untethered. I have two BDFs but I need a system that can be controlled by the operator. It would be nice to control focus too but that may not big as big a problem as the zoom. The camera is an Icky 388 which I am not familiar with. I would be grateful for any recommendations regarding where one might rent such a Zoom controll.

Mike,

I have a J-7 Zoom Control and a BFD Gimbal Mount Focus Control that will work with a Canon or Fuji Lens.

Give me a call if I can help you out.

Hope you got it all squared away, Mik.

For anyone reading this thread and needing a setup like this, I have the Preston Gimbal Microforce that I rent out to other ops. It works with a Preston (or compatible) motor, or can connect directly to a Canon or Fuji video zoom. When used with a Preston motor, you can avoid that "dead man's zone" typical of video lenses where it doesn't respond to pressure immediately.

Hey Mik, I recently purchased the Zoe III zoom control, I have used them all, this little guy is great. Abel Cine or B & H sells them for around $600. Its the best gimbal mounted zoom control (for video lenses) on the market in my opinion. As for Iki 388, its a bit of a beast in the video camera world. Good luck.

I also have a Bebob Zoe III zoom controller, they almost seem designed just for us, it fits around the grip nicely, it is just the right size. Plus you can get away with buying 1 unit and then buying different convertor cables so you can use it with different lenses.

How does the Bebob III compare to the older II model?

From what I can see, They streamlined it a bit. The vari-speed control now has guard rails to prevent accidental adjustments. The only problem I have with this unit is, the cable comes out of a bad position. It somewhat ineterferes with the yoke. I have re-cabled my unit with a thinner wire. Nice mod.

I figured I'd re cable my Zoe II when it gets over stressed from it's exit position. You're right, it's not in a good spot for the yoke.

Thanks for the reply,

Chip
