Star Wars Episode III

I can't believe no one has made a thread about this!

I went last night to the midnight showing, more like 12-45am! I'm not a massive Star Wars fan but I do love the movies, so thought it would be good to go to the first showing.

Wow, what an awesome film, the effects are incredible, but the best is the story itself, overlapping between Attack of the Clones and a New Hope it answers a HELL of a lot of questions, realising people who they really are. I won't say too much for anyone that's going to see it soon, only that it's an enjoyable 2 hours 20 minutes!

I think this is the best Star Wars ever ... it's a shame it's the final one, I felt a tear at the end knowing that there was no more ... end of an era almost :(

I too have been waiting to see this film.. but for a slightly different reason.

I have a confession to make.. as a kid I lived out in the countryside and very rearely went to the movies. As a result, I've (deep breath) never seen the original 3 films (Episodes 4, 5 and 6)! :o

By the time I'd realized that I was about the only person I know who hasn't seen them it was time for episode 1 to come out.

So I figured I'd just watch them in chronological order. (how many of you get the chance to do that?) :P

So Episode 3 is the missing link I've been waiting for. I haven't had a chance to get out and see it yet, but I see a 6 night long Marathon sometime in my very near future! :)

not to spoil plot lines for you,,,,,,

but one of the oddest things about watching them in "order" is you dont "automatically Hate" one of the villians....

SW strikes a universal father son conflict chord. to see them in "order" looses some of the power of that understanding...

a few more weeks and you can see what i mean if you imagine them in the order the rest of us saw them in.....

Oh yeah, I definatly agree that chronologically may not always be the best way to watch things in a series.

But I also like taking opertunties to look at things in a different way - if nothing more than for the great conversation/debate possibileties that arise from diversifide points of view. :-)

I saw it myself two nights ago, and I was genuinely apalled by it. The depth of the emotion in this film, the character conflicts, just didn't ring true, it took the last agonizing cry from obi-wan about anakin being the chosen one to even come close.

Lucas' insistence on tying up all the loose ends and robbing A New Hope's sense of mystery was also an astoundingly poor decision for me. It robs all the emotional impact of the first 3. Gone is the intial wonder of the Death Star, the mystifying decision by obi-wan to let himself be killed by Vader, the charm of Yoda in Empire as well as the climax of that film.

I had been willing to give both Phantom Menace and Clones a chance if it payed off well in this movie, and I'm sorry to say it missed by a long way.

LOL, outstanding.

Lucas' widely commented-on turn to the Dark Side is spectaculrly illustrated by this movie.

All spectacle, no heart.

I was one of the teen geeks who waited hours in line to see A NEW HOPE at the one theater showing iit in OC. It has been very disappointing for me to see how Lucas has abandoned the story elements that most interested me in this mythology for the sake of cheap sensationalism and merchandising.

Still, it has generated an amusing branch of pop slang.

As such I can say that I found SWIII to be a steaming pile of Sith. B)

Whew! Done!

Well I finally managed to see Star Wars. All of them. And they where great!

- I'v been watching them every other night for the past 2 weeks. And I just saw Return of the Jedi tonight.

A very impressive set of movies. I can definatly see where they have got their following. And iI do agree that the older ones are better then the newer ones. For some reason, the new ones look *less* realistic than the old ones. (Which I saw from VHS to see the original versions) And yes, the story is way better in 4,5, and 6.

Very fine SFX work in all of them.

... I had been long awaiting the chance to see the speeder chase. VERY impressive work by Garrett.

David,

I understand your point about not automatically hating Vader.

I must say that I didn't figure out how it was going to end, however I did feel that compassion that you warned of. (Albight concioussly..)

I'm almost bummed that I didn't see them the 'normal' way, however unfortunatly I had to make a choice.

...Now all that's left is to watch Space Balls again... it should make more sence this time :P
