Just finished watching the Eurovision Song Contest From Kiev (Ukrane).

Very imprsseive show (as it always is) broadcast live throughout Europe.

But I was wondering who opped it?

I'm preaty sure there where 2 rigs flying...

At least the rig on the stage was incrdible. Some really good shooting there.

And in the pit I couldn't tell if it was steadi or not, if it weas it was really good too.

Anyone own up to this gig? ..Or see it?

Yeah I watched some of it .... a joke for UK as always, don't know why we enter....

I was watching carefully, I was pretty sure the one behind the stage was a remote cam on a track, I didn't see an op when I spotted the camera, and I did at first think that the one in front of the stage was the same, until the whip pan, and I'm pretty sure I got a quick glimpse of him while the winners were singing, pretty sure it was Steadicam after that.

Jason is right, the camera behind stage was a remotecam, only at the front there was a steadicam.

How about that crane, i loved it. High speed and still very smooth

I though the one behind the stage was probabaly track.

...but I was refering to the one ON stage. - there where a couple of really impressive arc and whip combinations around the lead singer in a couple of acts..

Yeah some really good crane work too.

..and all the dutch heads on the other mounts too! - like the dolly through the croud that would dutch all the time.

yes great operating

Very good Directing and Vision Mix too.

I didnt watch it all, honestly, but did not see anyone in shot at all.

Yes great crane work too I thought at first it was a Flycam or something. Must of been two or three cranes.

I got the feeling there were two Steadicams one on front of stage that definitely and occassionally went upstage and around the back.

I also thought though there maybe a second rig posssbily on a dolly in the pits ?

I would be happy to learn that the on stage Steadicam was operated by two or more people over the evening if not I need to find out what drugs the single op was taking as it was very energetic and I need to buy some !

Not wanting to take anything away but having said the above the coverage was a bit repetetive but I suppose why change a winning formula ?

Excellent work

I never saw a Steadi op in the shot, thoguh i did see the Pedestal guys crouched down in front a few times and the cranes on each side.

I saw the upstage camera duck down in the background, after one shot.

And there was one time when a crane ducked right into the middle of a shot.. but they cut clear preaty quick (only to come to the crane for a lift moments later)

..I think the coverage very well matched the acts ..which incidently where all very similar in my oppinion. :-P

Yes

there is probably some European legislation that outlaws any acts that are not 100 bpm europop.

I find it all a little tragic that all of the technology and European satellite link up skills go on this rubbish, yes I know its not to be taken too seriously, but there must musicians from all over Europe crying into there songbooks when they see this.

I've seen an interview shot next to the scene, and there were a stedicam at the stage. That guy were really amazing, running around a scene at a decent speed. Great work.

Hi and thanks for these nice comments, It was a remote behind the scene, and it was 2 cranes in front of the stage plus a railcam above the scene, then a remote railcam behind the front audience. Then there was a number of other cranes and rails.I was alone on the steadicam, operating both in the pit and on stage, and it was hard work, we did about 500 song numbers in 11 days including rehearsals and dress rehearsals for the semifinal and the final, so I lost about 5 kilos during that period. We were 5 cameramen from sweden operating the steadi, 2 front cranes, close up, the railcam and ukraine cameras did the others. It was funny Joe mentioned if I use drugs, I don´t, I have some beer and a couple of cigarettes in the evenings, that is what I need then I get into the zone during the days and don´t feel any fatigue at all, I don´t know how it´s possible but that´s the way I work. Anyway thanks again for the nice words and hope to meet some of you sometime.

Best Regards
