Premium Members RodCrombie Posted August 23, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 23, 2005 Mark I wouldn't recomend taking things apart every time you need to store them unless it involves a cheap easily replacable screw of which you have a dozen in hand. I have a similar setup to yours and didn't like the fiberglass/plywood cases that were available. Too heavy, (expensive for shipping by air), they leak when wet, (sitting on the tarmac at a shut down airport during a thunderstorm). etc. I had an aluminum case made to my specs by a company here in Toronto, Quantam Scientific, www.cyber-case.com. Have had it now for 8 years and very robust and very light. Oh yeah if I remember it cost me about C$550.00. good luck Rod
TJ Williams
Mark Maybe another way? Change out your pro mounts for Xcs bayonet on the 2" Xcs post then you could quickly and reliably dissassembly into three pieces and use a very small case for your sled. (top bottom monitor) Maybe even hand carry the post and a super post in the cool little cases supplied by Xcs. This would really make a lighter shipping day! For day playing I just keep my sled built, wrap it in a furney and strap it to the back of my van seat. but then I'm a slow driver... Small cases are good! Premium Members Mark Karavite Posted September 19, 2005 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted September 19, 2005 Rod, I checked into Quantem Scientific aluminum cases. They are 35% lighter than ATA style cases, completely waterproof, and I can keep my sled built. It sounds perfect. I am talking to one of their design guys about a custom case. A couple of questions: -Being that you are both in Toronto, did you take your sled to them for measurement? I'd have to make templates and send them. -What is your assessment of their interior foam work? -Did you get wheels built into one side for rolling? -What is the weight of your case empty. Thanks for the info. My sled's been on a camera truck for the last 8 weeks, so I put the new case on the back burner. Now that I'm done with the film, I need to make a decision. It sounds like you've been very happy with your case. I'll post what I find out. Mark Karavite mkaravite@comcast.net
