Zephyr recorder mount.

I just wanted to share my last creation for my Zephyr.

A recorder mount on the battery hanger to place my Hyperdeck Shuttle. I used to place it under the post, where the second battery should go, but I wasn't satisfied.

This is a first prototype made with what I could find in my local hardware store, an alluminium 3" L bar a few screws, a hack saw, a metal file and a drill.

Feel free to share if anyone has an idea to improve it (and I know there is a lot that could be done)

I spoke with a mechanical engineer to make a CAD of it after I tested this one for a bit.

Machine made is definitely the way to go.

I'm looking into making the top into a cheese plate (while keeping plane surfaces for the DualLocks) and getting a few mounting points on the side as well as through holes.

Let me know if you might be interested in this kind of bracket once it's machine made.

A clamp? I'm not sure I understand what you mean... To clamp the recorder, or to clamp to the bracket to the sled (It is bolted in 4 available holes on the battery hanger).

It would be better to clamp the recorder than to use dual lock, and a cheese plate wouldn't help unless you had the cheese plate accessory for the recorder.

i don't agree with you Alan. A clamp would be too cumbersome. i use dual lock on my sled to attach Transvideo Titan SD to my Bartech and Bartech to my rig's nose-box. it's sturdy as hell and no vibration whatsoever.

Also, a cheese plate would make your recorder mount very practical and future proof. It's true that Hyperdeck Shuttle's cheese plate adapter is heavy as hell and even than you'll end up with two female 3/8 screw sets facing each other. But we don't have to put only recorders on it because it's called a recorder mount. what about a small LCD monitor for running donjuan shots. Or anything else with a 3/8 screws on them. i say when in doubt, always go with more mounting options.

DualLock is so sturdy that I sometimes feel that it will break the HyperDeck bottom plate when I pull it off (but it doesn't break it). Yes, that sturdy.

DualLock is so sturdy that i also feel that it will break the nose-box on my sled while removing the BFD(but it doesn't break it). Yes, that sturdy. :)

Very good idea.

i would suggest an extended area beneath the mini SDI in/out points with a HDMI cable Clamp idea (like some 5D Cages)

to protect the very fragile connections.

I'm not saying that Dual Lock doesn't work, but if you are thinking about selling these, I don't think Dual Lock should be the way it's mounted. You don't have to listen to me; that's just my opinion. If designed correctly, a clamp can be small and light. Having some cheese on the plate will help for other AKS, but there are a lot of people who think that the Hyperdecks cheese plate is too heavy. I have the cheese plate and an Gold Mount on my Shuttle, and I just hang the recorder from my secondary battery plate via a Gold Mount coupler that I made. It works for me.

If you are making it specifically for the Hyperdeck Shuttle you could mount it using the four threaded holes in the corners. This would give space for a line of 1/4" and 3/8" holes in the center and you could leave some surface area to each side of center for dual lock. The end user would be able to choose between permanently mounting their Hyperdeck, dual lock, or a quick release with the Hyperdeck Shuttle cheese plate.

Thanks. Yeah, just made a quick model for illustration. It sounded like a lot of the previous suggestions could be combined into the same plate to give multiple options.

 

The dimensions are completely inaccurate however... I didn't have a Zepher or a Hyperdeck shuttle on hand to reference.
