Juan Lima Posted May 7, 2013 Report Share Posted May 7, 2013 Hi mates!!!I'm having problems with those long wide open shots at very very slow speed with very distant subjects or without subjects like long corridors (no subjective) and with side tracking low speed shots. (Dolly kind shots with an ending Steadicam movement).Normally work on TV so I'm wired with those huge Triax most of the time. That's makes everything more difficult. I've noticed that walking backwards on lateral movements is much more stable for me, but sometimes I can't with that crossover Triax cable on my or when any swicth could be a compromise.A Western Dolly for very slow shots could help?I know, removing Triax cable could be an ideal and a way to improve everything but TV directors and Video Operators offers a lot of resistance about this. I balance like a watchmaker, DB and inertial too ( I tried shorter and longer configs). I think it's more about certain limits on how slow we can go with a Steadicam. I found my actual limit in that way. Talking with a Steadi Op I admire, he gave me a great explanation about minimal inertia requirements, weigth transfer from one foot to another and good exercises to improve foot work at maximun.About hardware: Garfield Mount sounds as a good option. I gonna try this weekend on a Western Dolly to see how it works in this kind of shots, and how slow I can go until step off.Grant, I'm reading the link. Good Stuff!!!Victor, rickshaw sounds like a good one. It's in my must have list.*I prefer shorten config in cases like this, but if any of you uses a different inertial config I'm open to all ideas and always happy to learn from you.
