Long live GB

Hi there

Just wanted to tell a funny (not) story. I went for an interview the other day and the DoP asked me who my influences were. I told him that I had done the steadicam ops course a few years back and that Garrett Brown had given a lecture, and his ideas on camera movement versus story telling were brilliant. He then told me that GB had died...six years ago...holy shit!! A minor argument followed as I told him I was pretty sure this was not true. Anyway it turns out that The DoP told production that I was fibbing about having met GB and I did not get the job. I would love GB to give him a call... from the dead just to wake him up. Much respect to GB, long may he live!!

I´m almost certain that the DoP was thinking about Ted Churchill. It ´s very sad that people that don´t get their facts straight have so much influence and can get you- totally unjustified- out of a job.

It also affects your credibility so I would suggest to talk to the production and make clear that HE is the one who is mistaken. You cannot get any support from him anymore, ever, ( he will be stubborn to the end, probably) and you don´t have to "be nice" to him for future work.

However, you need to clear up the matter with the production, (you have picture maybe, or something on paper?). if you want to have work from them.

Guest sebastian matthias

just imagine how a shoot with this guy would have been !

you probably wouldn´t have had much fun with him, anyway.

but rob is right. talk to the production and make clear that the cameraman is the one talking bulls...

my workshop-certificate for example is signed by garret.

there are also loads of photos of him in the net.

but talk to them in a nice tone !

all the best

sebastian

may garret live for a long time !
