Hi all,

looks like Sunday the 5th (day after CineGear) should work out pretty good for a get together in Gorman (Hungry Valley SVRA). Anyone with a dirt-bike/jeep/truck/suv/magliner with nobby tires should come out and play. This is not an organized event, just a casual hang-out and play time.

Bring food, beer, whatever in ice-chests. Bring plenty of water and dress accordingly, it will be hot/sunny. There are tables/campsites with bathroom facilities, but no water/electricity. It's all about hitting the trails and having fun. I think it's $6 each vehicle for a day pass, maybe a bit more ($12?) if you plan on camping out over night.

I will bring my hummer. Hopefully BJ can come with his v-cross and finally get some dirt on it. Greg Bubb and Anthony Hardwick are in with their bikes (John H is out of town, he'll miss the fun). I think Dan Ayers is in with his Suzuki and/or Suburban. It would be nice to have more trucks to pull us out when we get stuck or (god forbid) break down.

Those of you with suv's, don't be afraid of damage. There are over 120 miles of trails that range from easy graded fire roads and sandy creek beds to hardcore "you're not leaving with both tie-rods" hills of doom. You can pick your pioson. I will garuntee that your vehicle will need a good wash, it's dusty out there.

I'm looking forward to this. Hope to see you guys there.

The 5th works great for me. My Suzuki is a motorcycle, yes Ron, some peope don't drive on 4 wheels!! I'll try to bring both. I also have room for 4 other people, so if anyone else wants to come, I'll share my bike and Suburban which ever is available so it will be fun! We do need more ops with SUV's or Bikes. Come on everyone, lets make it a big event.

I doubt anyone is spending the night. There will be more than one truck there, so you can ride in any truck you want/try them all out. I'm sure there will be an extra bike or two also.

Dan, I don't care if your Samuri only has two wheels, as long as you can pull me out of trouble. Don't worry, I'm bringing ball joints.

Feel free to contact ops off this forum, it would be great to get more people. I'll bring it up at the Tiffen meeting tonight and Dalt's (where we'll be at the bar talking shop).

just talked to Colin Hudson and he suggested some sort of punishment for even mentioning the word steadicam.

I was talking about Dalt's on Saturday night, as well as tonight at Tiffen. But drinking alone isn't that bad, I just talk to myself after 5 drinks.

We definately need some more people with trucks and jeeps. Lots of interest, but as passengers only.

how common of me. But I can't say anything bad about the French because I really thought that handsfree scooter doo-hicky was way cool.

btw, the heavy breathing you heard in your house wasn't your hard drive.

hi guys,

sounds like we'll have a good group on Sunday. So far about 12 to 15 people. Looks like it will be very warm, so again I say unto you -- dress accordingly (ie hats, sunscreen etc...).

here is a link to a map of the Hungry Vally SVRA:

http://www.ohv.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=1200

There is a paved parking lot at the main entrace, and the main road is paved to equal at least PA hwys. There are gas stations, fast-food, and few restaurants in Gorman. Do not bring your guns unless we are using the barrels as pipes or pry-bars (no BJ, you can't fire your M-16 from my truck).

I'm still not sure about a meeting place or where we can set up our basecamp. I suppose we can figure out most of the details Saturday night at Dalt's (hopefully before more alchohol is consumed, guessing that we will already be pissed from the free beer at CineGear).

I think Colin, Anthony and myself will be going to CineGear together Saturday, hope to see all of you there and/or at Dalt's.

just a heads up on our time/location:

we are going to try to get there by 10/10:30ish to find an area we can hang in all day. Hopefully it won't be too busy.

Take a look at the map link (the one with no named roads or campsites). If you come in through the north entrance (past the ranger station/visitor center) and head south, you'll pass 5 campground areas, this main road is called Gold Hill Rd (it is paved). You'll come to a"T", take a left onto Hungry Valley Rd. The sixth campground (Smith Forks) is maybe a few hundred yards on your left. If it's really crowded we may check out the campgrounds on either side.

See ya

A good time was had by all.

"All" included:

Ron Baldwin (Hero for being an H1 Demi God for all the Hummer peeps there, and organizing this soiree)

Greg Bubb (Hero for bringing two Yamaha 4 stroke 250's)

Dan Ayers (sp?) w/ his Suzuki DR 650 (Hero for arriving early and securing last shaded picnic bench)

Colin Hudson (H1 Passenger and rode Greg's 2nd Yamaha too! Hero for bringing some Subway Sammitches)

Erwin Landau (H1 Passenger)

Brad Grimmett (H1 Passenger)

Mike Whitcomb (friend of mine w/ KTM 640 Adventure)

Evan Whitcomb (Mike's H1 obsessed teenage son)

Anthony Hardwick (me w/ KTM 640 Adventure)

The day was beautiful, and not too hot. Ron took his truck up and down some incredibly steep trails. His handling skills were quite impressive. I am sorry I didn't go for a ride in it this time. I spent most of my time on two wheels.

I really enjoyed riding Greg's 2nd 250 for a spell. That was a light, torquey, fun bike. I think Colin and I will soon be getting comparable little machines of our own for these kinds of adventures.

Ron, thanks for putting this together, and for taking my friend's son with you on the trails. It really made his year!

I look forward to doing it again when I get back later this Summer.

Perhaps Erwin will post some pics from the day.
