when can I pick it up?

Preorders open next week, payment expected immediately, delivery in 6-8 weeks pending delivery of the springs (the last batch didn't boing nicely enough).... assuming no bugs are discovered. :D

Chris -- Afton and I got it covered so you can get the bubble levels and threaded holes done!

Does that mean you are finally buying a monitor and level, or just speaking on Aftons behalf?

Gladly...once I see the bubble work and I figure out a narrow bracket

Hmm, I was going to say your monitor is ready, but since you are prepared to wait..... :P

Here's our man Nick Franco hiding behind the Modern shakey-cam setup. I'll leave it to him and/or Denis to detail the hands-on experience, but the director and I are quite happy with the results (and it has relieved Nick and Denis from having to shoulder through many endless takes, so I would think they are fans too). One of the things that is pretty cool is that unlike true handheld where the longer the lens, the more amplified the wobble, it is possible to get a very similar look from two vastly different focal lengths between the cameras.

It does seem like a welcome feature would be an instant lock that would rigidify the platform for leaving it unattended, AC doing work on the camera etc. Our guys fashioned a wooden block that slides in between the springs to achieve this.

I would love to see a comparative lineup of all available versions of this tech. Hey look, ANOTHER shootout that we'll never get around to.

We can do this: put cameras on shot balls and shakey cams. Use a different transmitter (arrow, bolt, micro, etc...) to transmit to all the newest daybright monitors (cinetronic 2, new Transvid, smallHD, etc...)

Simple.

Oh wait, we gotta check out all these new electronic levels.

Okay, so we put the shotballs and shakeycams on top of steadicams...

Trying to see where more interest lies, making the shotballs again, or making the new version similar to the cartoni.

The Cartoni style seems better to me cause you can let go of the camera without it falling over. The Shot ball has to be "docked" so to speak.
