Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted June 6, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 6, 2013 (edited) http://www.paralinx.net/blog/2013/4/4/introducing-the-paralinx-crossbow It looks like Dan has the casing for the crossbow all buttoned up. At $239, I'm going to get one. It doesn't have a loop through, and I don't think it passes audio; but hopefully they'll be making a pro version with those things included. Premium Members Kyle Wullschleger Posted June 6, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 6, 2013 My impression of it at CineGear is it seemed large... just large enough to be slightly awkward. What are the actual dimensions and do we have any photos of it attached to cameras? I didn't hold it to be fair so I don't know what it weighs, but it just seemed like it might be a bit annoying to find an ideal spot for it on the camera. Not trying to rock the boat, just give my honest impression.
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted June 7, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2013 I agree. It's not the perfect solution, but the positives are price and cable savings.
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted June 7, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2013 I am looking forward to it, but I am used to passing audio thru it. I use it a lot on C300 jobs, where I have the Arrow+ in the shield, power it and feed it the HDMI signal, then I put the receiver on a Marshal V-LCD70MD 7" hi rez monitor, This monitor has a headphone out, so the director can hold the monitor, and plug into the headphone jack and hear everything perfectly, The audio guys LOVE me cause they don't have to worry about feeding the director an IFB signal and belt pack. The AB battery powers the Monitor and the Receiver with the regulator P Tap and all fits inside the IKAN monitor bracket. Sweet set up. almost has paid for itself already on jobs. I don't mind the NO HD/SDI loop thru, but the audio issue may be a "wait for the next one" issue for me.
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted June 7, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted June 7, 2013 I've had a few conversations with audio guys about Comteks. They love the idea of not having to babysit clients. I'm thinking that version two will have all these features.
Premium Members William Demeritt Posted June 9, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 9, 2013 Good price on the unit, thanks for the heads up. I don't need loop thru either, I'd rather port the signal thru the monitor's loop.

Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted June 9, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 9, 2013 Loopthru for me is for Epics and Scarlets which only have 1 output. Dan says he's had good experience using a T-barrel on those bad boys. Has something changed in the past few years that has made that a viable option? ETA: Dan was very open to the idea of loop thru and wasn't in any way claiming the t-barrel was satisfactory for every one. He was just reporting his recent experienceWith Steadicam, I have to push the signal through more hose and connectors to get it to my monitor than Dan is likely doing, I dunno if that makes a difference. Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted August 24, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2013 Thanks for the link and news Libor. Just placed the order. Bummed they used the 2.1 connector for the power, but at least I already have several different power cables for that from my Decimator 2's
Premium Members Steve Acheson Posted August 24, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2013 does anyone know how big it is?
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 24, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 24, 2013 Probably about the length and width of your hand.
Premium Members Osvaldo Silvera SOC Posted August 25, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 25, 2013 take a look at the picture on the site, Looks like maybe double the length of the stick and a couple times wide...and then a bit more. ( that's a scientific term). I got it, just cause it will help broaden the camera signals I can feed it., No word yet on whether it passes the Audio thru it with this HD/SDI set up. Without it, and just using the HDMI out of a camera, the Audio does flow thru and you can plug in headphones on the receiver monitor if it's so equipped with a headphone jack. Hoping the same applies with the Crossbow. I'll see next week when I receive it and report back. Ozzie
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted August 25, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted August 25, 2013 There is no audio pass-through on the Crossbow.
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted August 27, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) Regarding embedded audio, Paralinx just returned my email: The Crossbow will pass through audio, it will be in LPCM format. Not sure what that means for monitor comparability because I can't find any format specs for my Marshall (same as Ozzie's).
