Travel / non-local rates?

hey yall

 

i only recently started to freelance. before february, i was working full time for a company that would send me wherever the clients wanted, etc. i believe they were charging "travel rates" which were undisclosed to me. i currently live in los angeles, for context on the following.

 

i have two similar questions:

 

-if the production is taking me to a non-local location, how should i adjust my day rate and kit rental for travel days (the 2 days of flying in and out of a city)? slash it in half? drop kit rental...?

 

-if the production is willing to pay for travel and accommodations in one of my local cities (e.g. atlanta) and is planning on paying full rate for the working days, should i charge for the travel days since i cannot work those days? and again, full rate or cut?

If you are local in Atlanta, why is production paying travel and accommodation ?

I would charge them full on my rate for all days, and maybe cut them a deal on kit rental for the non shoot days.
