Premium Members Kyle Fasanella Posted June 12, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 12, 2013 My batteries barley stay in place on my Flyer 1st generation. The original insides to lock the bolt striped a year ago. I replaced with a nut stuck in place with sugru and longer screw on a kipp handle. The nut started to not stick more often than not. I started using needle nose pliers when needed. Currently using a wing nut to lock down with kipp handle. Hopefully for the first and last time. I think its time to find a permeant replacement / Fix. + Not a fan of handing someone the rig in a car and always having my batteries change position. can the flyer LE sled be placed on the ground without adjusting the batteries? If so maybe that is an option. after searching the forum a bit I see DIY options ( anything simple? ) I know I have at least one option for upgrade with MKV. What other options do I have for upgrading the battery hanger on the steadicam flyer 1st generation?
Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted June 12, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 12, 2013 Have you tried roughing up the two surfaces that mate together with a file?

Brandon Thompson
kyle, I am going to assume that you still have the base that has one screw that tightens the battery hanger. Call Steadicam and insist that they upgrade you to the the gen 2 base that has 2 screws. That is what I did when I had my gen 1 Flyer. I never had any problems once they upgraded the battery hanger. In my opinion it was a design flaw, bc they changed the design shortly after.
Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted June 13, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 13, 2013 Interesting. Three or four years ago when I had my flyer, I asked if they had any gen-one compatible improved (2 screw) battery hanger brackets and they said they didn't. That's when I took a file to mine to rough it up. It worked fine after that.

I called tiffen and talked to Harry but he was not sure after he looked into it. He like for me to send him more info. Is there anyone that can send me a photo of the 2 screw base so that I can show to Harry at Tiffen? Interesting. I tried this but soon after the aluminum wore off and now the problem is a bit worse. :-/
