Arranging LA based backup rigs 6/17 - 7/26

Hi everyone!

 

I'm starting a feature on Monday the 17th, and its my first time working with the Codex recorder on top of the Arri Alexa. I didnt find out that we will be using the Codex until I showed up to prep today, and honestly the arri + codex is pushing the limits of my breakers to power the damn thing.

 

I'm trying to arrange a few people who would be willing to rent me their rig on call in case mine goes down for whatever reason. If you have a backup rig it would be great to hear from you, or if you would be willing to rent your rig day by day it would be great to hear from you. I am not looking to house an extra sled for the entire shoot, but it would be great to have a few people in my back pocket to call in case something terrible happens. Just a little insurance policy.

 

If you are interested please either reply here, or PM me with what sort of rig you have and what sort of $$$ you would want per day and per week. We can exchange contact info privately, so if you do reply to the post and are interested please also PM me your contact information.

 

Hopefully everything will go off without a hitch. I'm just nervous and want to cover all of my bases.

This is not an ideal situation.

What if your circuit is fried or popped?

You tell production to continue with other shots and delay the steadicam shots till tomorrow?

You can do this if they really like you or your are a friend of the director.

Otherwise, the director will ask you not to come back tomorrow.

You already had the chance to prep a few days before the production.

 

What is your sled?

 

If this is my situation, I will do the followings:

1. Build a power cable running outside the sled, connecting it directly from the second battery D-tap to camera and recorder.

2. Power both camera and recorder separately from a back pack battery.

3. Rent another better sled for the whole duration of shooting.

 

Don't wait until it is going bad then take action.

TJ--The camera and Codex will run on a single Dionic90HC! Don't try and run them on 24 since the camera is a 12 volt camera! The 24 vdc is just for the accessories! Done it for years that way. I route power to the camera through the Anton/Bauer plate on the rear of the camera with a custom cable I made by cutting the battery contacts from a dead battery and making up a cable from the upper J-box that provides 12vdc. The Codex seems to prefer 12 rather than 24vdc power. Hit me off Forum for a photo of the setup if you need to.

Don't try and run them on 24 since the camera is a 12 volt camera!

 

 

Actually it's a 10.7-36 volt camera and I run mine at 24Volts full time...
