Can the Steadicam Merlin hold JUST a 5D3 and 70-200mm IS II lens?

Two things

1) please change your screen name to you real first and last name, it's a rule here

2) wrong lens for a merlin

3) your profile says yes for big cameras... a 5D is not a big camera and a merlin is not a big camera rig

1) Done

3) Done

2) I don't mind if its the wrong lens, will it work though? Thanks.

Slight update, to this. I made the mistake of purchasing the Steadicam Merlin and the vest for my 5d mark III. I had forgotten to factor in the rigging I was going to use to support the camera for audio and whatnot. Anyways thats besides the point.

You can stabilize the 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II USM series lens. Its heavy for just hand holding though, you have to use the vest.

It works, although if you are not careful the plate on back can slide a bit. However I had it up there balanced enough initially so that it would not slide unless you really tipped it. Can be a hassle at times but it does work.

Settings for Steadicam Merlin owners.

(they are my own notation so i'd know what i was talking about hah so I apologize in advance)

Mount it on the lens tripod support.

B and D small plate screws

C - big screw

Plate location 9.1 (will require alot of manual adjustment, it did for me at least)

From connection join to threads on the bottom 14" distance

1 mid finish weight

1 end finish, 1 start weight and 6 inbetween weights on the bottom weight screw.

Also of note, Gaffers tape is helpful for making it not slide. When i did my test initially I did not have gaffers tape on hand. However place it between the plate and the stabilizer definitely helps.

Now granted its heavy and you will not be able to balance it without the arm or tiffen balancing stand (again its heavy) but it can work in a pinch although I do suggest a heavier duty sled which is what im trying to look into now.

It is if you have it on an UltraCage with mattebox, v-mount battery, and Broadcast Monitor XD

No it's neither a big camera or a big rig. And while you have ignored the real names policy in these first posts of yours you need to change your screen name to your real first and last names
