If you were the DP or the client paying you to be there, how would you feel about the footage? What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are? We all have them. One piece of focused, specific feedback: all of your shots seem rolled to the right a good 5+ degres. Check your horizons, or check your rig to make sure your horizons are correct when operating. Bare in mind, it's about to get really ugly in here, and the reason is this isn't a forum for enthusiasts of all flavors to come and share their footage. It's a forum of working professionals who are EXTREMELY critical of their shots, because we're paid well to accept nothing less than excellent. I would highly recommend that you go find the Steadicam shots in movies and TV that inspired you to become a Steadicam operator, compare those shots to your footage, and ask if you think you're there yet? Strive for perfection, and you'll know when the time is right to post your footage again. In the mean time, as many are about to encourage you: take down the video, read, participate in the discussion and ask questions. This is a forum for steadicam users especially if there is a section of newbies ...and one post on it ...last thing i checked this is called steadicam forum and not eric forum .... Again with all due respect but this is a forum and i belive thast whatva forum its for exchange of info on a matter ...ill post a liter version sovits not a massive 500mb file ...and i thank to the ppl in advange that would take the time to check it out .... What do you think we are going to say? Most here do this for a living and we have earned the right to be critical. I had more respect for you if you told me .... Your framing sucks you got eork on it ...vs a child litte comment like here we go again .... I think your first time flying sucked aswell no ¿? Or did you got born eith a steadicam on your hands ........ I have great deal of redpect for ops as im a camera op ...now steadicam its a new game to me so yes it sucks but ill get it ... Was just trying to c if you talented ops could c my mistakes snd tell me how to improve it ..... Again i postef in a newbie section ...and i think that they are no rules against showing your work as good or as bad .... If ypu dont want to deal with the newbies section dont even bother but i saw some of your posts to other ppl that you act the same way ...even ppl that can afford a steadicam and have a flycam or othetr you drag tgem down .... Consider yourself lucky to be able to afford one and let other fly eith whatever they have ...if they came to this forum wss to ( learn from ecperiencef ops like yourself and not be brougth down ...snd thadt y i say u a bullie i veen fillowing your post.... Point is, in my opinion, and with all due respect, a random sequence of footage uploaded at first after reading the instruction manual of your stabilizer system is not a good start. In your position, as it has been for vast majority around here, a workshop would be a good start. A deeper knowledge, acquired in any way, regarding technique, framing and aesthetic would be a good start. You said you are a camera operator. Don't know what you mean with that, it may have a broad meaning (usually an IMDb personal credits scroll gives a fair idea), but if you have experience behind camera, you should know there's no point in uploading a video that is wrong in too many aspects and let it judge by other pros. Would you show a framing less than ideal to your DP/Director while rehearsing? What for? To get negative criticism? In spending some of your time in try understanding where others started from, you may discover interesting bits that may give you a hint on how and from where to start. And believe me, it's much easier to start nowadays in this field that it was just ten years ago. So, take advantage of that. This forum is a great source of knowledgeable information for either newbies and experienced operators, take the most out of it reading and studying before to just upload your thing. Get in touch with a local Steadicam Op, ask for suggestions, if you behave, I'm sure you'll receive great inputs. Make sure you're going to be loved by the community, if is where you want to be eventually, and things will be much easier that falling into unneeded arguments with people that was already in this craft when you were still at primary school. So, coming back to your header post, my answer is: there isn't much to review in the video you posted. No offense, but simply because there's nothing there to watch or judge. Were others better than you at their first fly? Who wants to know! What's the point? You have thousands of hours to practice ahead, as per everybody else when first started. Go back to practice, sign up for a workshop, get some knowledge. Moreover, enjoy the forum as a reader, don't feel obliged to post a video when there's no need for it. A technically empty video will only show where you don't want to be. Nothing constructive will comes out of it. Show us your nice and shiny show-reel in couple of years and things will change. Not to stop people from posting but to let them know they will be unhappy with the answers. I understand you are happy with a tool that allowed you to make shots to couldn't before. I often compare steadicam with guitar playing. You have a great tool that needs hours and hours of training. Would you put up a video of your first chord? Wait till you can write your first song then post your music video (yes you ca use steadicam in your music video) Keep on training, correct the issues people mentioned in the comments (especially the side tilt) and see you around on the forum. I'm mystified that it's never been done. I'm also mystified that some people who seemingly can't find the time or manners to deliver a constructive critique when requested, will so often make the time for condescending, negative and nasty comments. The newbie section is in my opinion for people with camera experience (assistants or operators) who are transitioning into the world of STEADICAM. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted June 28, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 28, 2013 Using Victor's guitar analogy, he just showed up to where a bunch of pretty good guitar players hang out and announced that he just bought a starter guitar and can fumble through smoke on the water -- jump ahead 15 seconds to his panties in a bunch because he got godsmacked by the more experienced players (who's opinions he originally asked for). This scenario seems to happen more and more often.
