Premium Members Chris Poynton Posted July 2, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 2, 2013 Is anyone taking on the task of writing up a "sticky" or "automatic introduction" for the Newbie section to explain protocols and purpose of this forum? Perhaps there could be a flag that pops up when someone attempts to make their first post, pointing them to an intro page, and maybe a cooling off period of 48 hours or something after registration before they can post. There is recurrent discussion about how to deal with amateur/prosumer enquiries on this forum (often regarding cheap rigs or feedback on footage). Some forum members have an editorial perspective that the original purpose of the "Newbie" section was for those who are already working in the industry and generally up to speed with Steadicam basics, but only just getting started with buying/operating their own Steadicam gear. The Newbie category has by default defined itself as a first point of contact for amateurs/prosumers, and perhaps the "higher end" newbies just tend to make their posts in the relevant technical sections. There is a great set of FAQ's and introductory stuff at homebuiltstabilizers.com which could be referred to in the sticky, and is a great resource for steadicam enthusiasts/prosumers. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I personally have no problem with newbies or prosumers or students or whomever lurking and posting whatever they want in the Newbie Section. I can't understand why any of my colleagues would waste their time looking at a first time reel and then getting their panties in a bunch when the footage is as shitty as expected. I certainly am not threatened by the existence of new operators so I don't get the need to beat them up. I simply ignore reading posts that I can immediately identify as not improving the quality of my life/work. Despite what some think, we are not saving lives! Nelson Reis Posted July 5, 2013 Report Share Posted July 5, 2013 I thing this is a good attempt but a newbie is a newbie , You cant go on a field a operate a rig if you never a newbie by that matter, a newbie needs a start. and that start is not being a ops A.C because a A.c doesnt fly . He can learn and observe a op operating which if hes lucky he will get alot of info by just doing that . For newbie that dont have the luxury of being a a.c to a op . Or dont have workshops around them or ops around the option is to go online and enter the newbie level ... Like myself i belive most nrwbies post footage not with the intent of impressing one but for one to pin point a faulty operating and maybe a kind experience op would C the weakness of the footage and explain how to correct it ... Going by such mentality im seeing that this forum will have in the near future. Experience op level 1 Experience op level 2 Experience op level 3 Experience op level 4 Experience op level 5 The reason i say this its because ( most ) ops in here like to be categorized as experienced op..
