Please check it out! Used an Arri 435 last night on the rig, starting frame was looking back at a couple sitting in the rear seats of a Previa then track out and round to follow Actor getting out, then down to her handbag where she then drops an invitation to the floor and then the camera boomed up to above her head height...worked a treat!! Ok here is a list of the Cameras you can use with the AR: Panavision XL - (light weight with B&W tap just about works?, color tap too big, but XL is much better - recomend the new slim mag adaptor only 1/4" thick) Moviecam SL - check what tap as some are very odd and stick out and up. ARRICAM LT (the best for sync work 35mm) - very nice camera and balances very well. you can use this straight out of the box - do not need low mode plates. Aaton 35 - works very well. 435 - with steady mags and 100% top 235 (the best for none sync work - and no I don't work for ARRI..) - simply sweet! - use riser and no lowmode plates - all new bar focus mount very nice, as well as the new 400' Steadymag. NO more BL's No more 535's! - to big and too heavy! Viper - with the new Venom system, what this space. Panavision Genesis (without tape mag - this weigh's the same as the XL body without a mag) - this also works with the new venom system. All 16mm - Aaton Prod, XTR, aminma etc also SR 2, 3 etc. HD and Digital 900's but even better the newer cameras like the 950 you can just use the chip block in the AR and then fiber optic to the body - very sweet. and HDV and DV etc. Digibeta/SP etc (400/700/790 range need to remove top handle) I hope this is of some help. The idea was to show good quality pictures in series, to highlight the camera positions!!! and to not use much memory for, people to download!! Yes, there will be video footage! Howard has been in the States, physically showing people! over the last 2 months! Now he's back in the UK, We will try to get something more specific footage for you... I was working Trading Spaces (airs on TLC) and the designers had redone this living room in Philadelphia to be an "upside down" room [this means they flipped over the entertainment center and attached it to the ceiling as well as attached a throw carpet, some chairs, pedestal lights, and a kitchen style table to the ceiling!] The place had high ceilings so you could walk around in the place. It was like a LooneyToons cartoon. Anyway when I shot the reveals, the producer had me shooting these crazy shots with the camera upside down looking at the ceiling ? which will look normal on the TV set, then I would back track as I flipped the camera and the rig revealing the "upside down" room. Or i would tilt the camera and rig up from the floor, pass the wall, inverting the camera so it would look at the couch on the ceiling upside down, but in TV land it will all be upside right? sort of? Needless to say, at times I could not tell what the hell I was shooting because at times I could not see the image on the monitor [Tiffen UltraBrite] It could have been any monitor ? I still would not have been able to see it at times. So I started thinking about the AR?s revolving monitor. But the AR can only fly a light monitor. Now I had a Modulus going and I thought about attaching my small Casio monitor onto my wrist but there was no time to even go get it. But it would have been nice for those moments when the main LCD was not visible. But today it hits me. With the AR, why bother putting the monitor on the rig at all!?!?!?! Why not put a great quality LCD but have it mounted on the rig?s arm [as in your Pro, Tiffen, or 3A steadicam arm] with a TV tuner on the monitor and then watch the images from you camera like everyone else? wirelessly! The Panasonic 7 inch is not all that great, so why not sacrifice the RF interference for a better quality monitor. And then you would not need a special motor to spin the monitor, just the motors to spin the camera. You could even mount the TV tuner to you vest to take a little load off the arm. I know having the monitor on the steadicam is something that makes it such a successful device for film and television production, but the AR is different right? so what do you all think?? If you have to relearn steadicam in order to really learn how to fly the AR, could you relearn to have the monitor not always pointing in the same direction as the camera? rich Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We tried this with the monitors - you need the monitor on the sled as this gives you your 'point of reference' to where the sled is and what you are doing with it. It would of been great if it had of worked, but you just end up crashing into things. Hope this helps.
