James Palanza II
So I'm reading that Anton Bauer Proformer batteries have been discontinued. Now the manual for the flyer lists them as the recommended battery and it is setup for the anton bauer mount. I've found a lot of Anton Bauer Proformer batteries on ebay for way less than the 400$ or so I'm seeing for the newer anton bauer's. Any suggestions on this? Do the batteries lose their power over time and wear out? I'm only really going to use it to power the monitor on the sled anyway. I'll also need a charger, and I really would like to avoid spending a thousand bucks on a brand new battery solution if possible. Also, is Anton Bauer a brand name, or is it also the name of the actual connection standard for these things? Just want to make sure I get something that'll actually work! Premium Members James Puli Posted July 10, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 10, 2013 I use batteries from globalmediapro.com and they're great .... and cheap! Cant recommend them highly enough! Yep, people refer to Anton Bauer mounts or Gold mounts ... same thing! No need to spend more on batteries then on your whole rig! Premium Members Brian Freesh Posted July 11, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 11, 2013 Anton Bauer is the brand, Gold mount is the mount. Hytron 50s would do you well, I've always used 'em. Not good if you need to power a hungry camera, but great for powering the monitor and a follow focus. John ritter sells recelled Hytron 50s for I think $100 each, and I believe he still gives a discount to steadicam forum members. You can find his info on the forum. Premium Members Jarrett P. Morgan Posted July 23, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 23, 2013 I use globalmediapro batteries as well and love them. Fantastic deal. Only issue might be if your ACs are uptight and only want name brand stuff. I use batteries from globalmediapro.com and they're great .... and cheap! Cant recommend them highly enough! Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted July 24, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 24, 2013 The alternative brands will work fine for you but you'll always have to use their charger I suspect so make sure you have a backup. A lot of guys use Batteries 4 Broadcast versions with good results. When I switched from IDX / PowerCubes I looked at the different brands and options but went with Anton Bauer for their over the top service and support. Aside from just battery cells inside they have a lot of other features but as you know now you have to use an Anton Bauer charger. Most of their smart chargers have evaluation cycles and reset functions built in that every so often do a "Rejuvenation" which is a process of taking the battery down slowly and then charging it back up to help the cells not build a memory to them. I may not have described it perfectly but that's the general gist. I paid more but I feel like the service, support and product was worth it to me. Plus, when I travel and there's a problem I can always beg, borrow or rent Anton Bauers from any local TV station or rental production house.
